Why Mia Wasikowska Stepped Away from Hollywood's Spotlight New

Why Mia Wasikowska Stepped Away from Hollywood's Spotlight

Published 17:29 13 Sep 2026 GMT+1'I didn’t entirely like the lifestyle', she admittedAlice in Wonderland's Mia Wasikowska has lived a life far away from the spotlight since the 2016 Disney release, after admitting the 'perception is quite different from the reality'.The 36-year-old is best known for her role as 'Alice' in the Disney classic, but the once in-demand performer decided to take a huge step away from Hollywood following the experience."I want to do more things in life other than be in a trailer," she admitted, while speaking with IndieWire in 2023.She starred in numerous high-profile projects over the course of her stint in the limelight, including Jane Eyre, The Kids Are All Right, and of course Tim Burton’s sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass.AdvertBut like many 'young woman' in the industry, she claimed, the actress recalled experiences she didn't feel totally comfortable with."I think you would be hard-pressed to find any young woman who hasn’t experienced a level of abuse or inappropriate experiences or behavior towards them," she told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2022.Fans will most notably recognise the star from Disney's Alice in Wonderland, as well as it's 2016 sequel. (Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)And more than anything, the star admitted that she 'didn’t entirely like the lifestyle', as she added: "I felt really disconnected from any greater community."I was doing it since I had been 17, well more like 15, completely like, new city, new country, every three months, and it’s like starting school again every few months."Especially when you’re younger, when you don’t have that base, I found that really hard."While she appreciated the 'payoff is good and you feel really great doing it', Wasikowska sought a sense of belonging that she couldn't find while working on such star-studded movies. But she hasn't totally left that world behind her. In the late 2010s, she moved back to her home in Sydney, Australia, and began working on numerous independent projects with directors she enjoys the work of.She is now working on independent projects back in Australia. (Stephane Cardinale - Corbis/Corbis via Getty Images)And asked whether she would ever consider returning to Hollywood, her response was pretty clear. "I’m pretty content," she said. "If I can have the best of both worlds, which is dip in and out of it occasionally, I’d be really happy, but I wouldn’t ever be in that place where I was just on a treadmill. "I want to do more things in life other than be in a trailer."The actress added: "It’s great, and there are lots of great things, [but] the perception of it is quite different from the reality and it didn’t suit me as a person. "You can really lose perspective because you’re treated quite strangely. When that’s your only reality, it’s quite strange."Featured Image Credit: Walt Disney Studios Motion PicturesTopics: Celebrity, Film and TV, Disney

Inside the Kennedy 'Camelot': A Legacy Beyond Politics New

Inside the Kennedy 'Camelot': A Legacy Beyond Politics

For nearly a century, the Kennedy family’s sprawling Hyannis Port compound has served as the backdrop to countless summer celebrations, where days were spent sailing on Nantucket Sound, swimming off the Cape Cod coastline and taking part in fiercely competitive games of touch football. The waterfront retreat became so synonymous with the political dynasty’s warm-weather traditions that images of the Kennedys gathered on its sprawling lawns or setting sail from its private pier helped cement the family’s idyllic “Camelot” image. And as summer drew to a close, the Kennedys could often still be found embracing the activities that had defined their months in Hyannis Port.John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier stroll across the lawn of his family’s home after announcing their engagement. Bettmann ArchiveIt was there that John F. Kennedy spent his final Labor Day holiday in 1963, enjoying an activity-filled weekend with wife Jacqueline Kennedy, their children, relatives and friends just months before his assassination.Archival footage from that weekend captures the family swimming, boating and spending time along the waterfront—offering an intimate glimpse at the traditions that made the compound much more than a collection of impressive homes.A Kennedy playgroundLong before the Kennedy name became synonymous with American politics, summers in Hyannis Port were centered around family—and plenty of competition.JFK and Bouvier are interviewed for a LIFE Magazine story while on vacation at the Kennedy compound in June 1953 in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. Getty ImagesThe Kennedy children grew up swimming, sailing, playing tennis, riding horses and facing off in games of touch football, activities that became deeply intertwined with the family’s time on Cape Cod.Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy, one of Joseph and Rose Kennedy’s nine children, was known to enjoy horseback riding, tennis, swimming, sailing and touch football during the family’s summers in Hyannis Port, according to the National Park Service. Those activities were hardly limited to one member of the family.Joseph Kennedy encouraged a competitive spirit among his children, and the expansive outdoor spaces and waterfront setting surrounding their summer home provided an ideal playground for the growing brood.Touch football, in particular, became one of the family’s most famous pastimes, with photographs of Kennedys tossing a football across the grass becoming nearly as synonymous with the compound as its shingled homes and ocean views.JFK and Bouvier play football with Edward Kennedy. Getty ImagesThe water was equally important. Sailing became a fixture of Kennedy family life, while swimming, boating and trips out onto NantucketDecades later, those same activities were still unfolding around the compound when JFK returned as president for Labor Day weekend in 1963.The compound takes shapeThe Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port holds almost as much lore as infamous political dynasty itself. This home was purchased in 1928 by family patriarch, diplomat, and businessman Joseph P. Kennedy for his wife, Rose, and their nine children, including JFK and Sen. Robert F. Kennedy. Over the years, the residence has become closely intertwined with the family’s storied history. It was at the Cape Cod retreat that JFK planned his presidential campaign in the summer of 1960, and it was there that his wife, Jackie, fled after he was assassinated in 1963 at the age of 46.Hyannis Port would be where Jackie crafted the image of Kennedy’s presidency as “Camelot” in the wake of his death, taking inspiration from the late politician’s favorite Broadway musical and telling the media in her first official interview after his passing: “Don’t let it be forgot, that for one brief, shining moment there was Camelot.”The home had been the site of many happy vacations for JFK and Jackie—and it went on to serve as a much-needed retreat for other family members over the years, becoming the site of an annual Fourth of July reunion for many of their descendants. The Kennedys might never have come to Hyannis Port if it hadn’t been for one pastime Joseph and Rose loved: golf. In 1926, and already a millionaire, Joseph went in search of a home near a golf club. He explored a membership at the Cohasset Country Club, on the South Shore and close to Boston. However, he was iced out, reportedly as a result of his Irish Catholic faith.Instead, the couple found Hyannisport Club on Cape Cod—then run by an Irish Catholic—and the Kennedys were welcomed. They proceeded to rent Malcolm Cottage, as it was then known and, in 1928, purchased the property for $25,000, according to the website for the JFK Museum in Hyannis. The 3-acre property on a dead-end street directly faces Nantucket Sound. While the Kennedy family spent time at other homes in New York, Maryland, and Florida, Hyannis Port is where they would create a multigenerational compound. Joe Kennedy expanded the main house, dubbed the Big House, to reportedly include 21 rooms, 12 bedrooms, a steam room, and a 50-person theater in the basement. The grounds offer a tennis court and pool, and other recreation options including golfing at the local club and sailing on the sound. Touch football, played on the grassy lawn, was also a favorite.JFK bought a home behind his father’s Big House in 1956. It became known as the President’s House. Robert F. Kennedy and his wife, Ethel, bought another adjacent home; and those three properties made up the compound, which now spans 6 acres of waterfront property. It was in the main house that JFK decided to run for president, and the home subsequently served as his campaign headquarters. The morning after the election, it was his young daughter, Caroline, who woke him up in their Hyannis Port home to announce, “Good morning, Mr. President.”During JFK’s presidency, the compound became the “seaside White House.” He once said of his Cape Cod home, “I always come back to the Cape and walk on the beach when I have a tough decision to make.”JFK and Bouvier sitting together in the grass at Hyannis Port. Bettmann ArchiveThe place became iconic when images emerged of Jack and Jackie spending time there with their children during the White House years. It’s also a place where family members have retreated to grieve tremendous loss over the years, from the deaths of Joe Kennedy Jr., the eldest son, in World War II, to JFK’s assassination in 1963 to RFK’s assassination in 1968, after he won the California presidential primary.Another tragedy, decades later, took JFK’s son, John F. Kennedy Jr., who died in a plane crash with wife Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy in 1999.In 2019, another tragedy struck: A granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy, Saoirse Kennedy Hill, died of a suspected overdose at the Kennedy family compound. Her death occurred in the home of her grandmother, Ethel Kennedy, who was 91 at the time.John F. Kennedy Jr., right, and his wife Carolyn arrive for a gala awards dinner on May 19, 1999, in New York. REUTERSThe compound was designated a US National Landmark in 1972—not surprising for a property that embodies so much American history. One final Labor Day weekendIt was against that storied backdrop that JFK returned to Hyannis Port for what would ultimately become his final Labor Day holiday. The president and his family spent the long weekend there from Aug. 29 through Sept. 2, 1963, with official White House photographs and home-movie footage preserved by the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum offering an intimate glimpse into their final days of summer. And despite JFK’s position as president, much of the weekend appeared remarkably similar to the Cape Cod vacations the Kennedys had enjoyed for decades.JFK takes a stroll with his wife, Jacqueline, and their daughter, Caroline, on Nov. 8, 1960, in Hyannis Port. ASSOCIATED PRESSCaroline and JFK Jr. spent time along the beach near the compound, where they swam with other children. JFK Jr., who was just 2 years old, was also captured helping to guide a small motorboat into the bay, where the presidential yacht “Honey Fitz” sat anchored offshore.Elsewhere, JFK watched as the children rode horses and later ventured into town with his close friend Paul “Red” Fay and John Jr. for a visit to a local toy store before the trio drove back to the compound. The family also took to the water aboard the Honey Fitz, with footage showing the Kennedys and their guests making their way down the pier before embarking on a cruise.Yet even during the holiday weekend, presidential duties were never far awayJFK and members of his family pose in the living room of his father’s home. Bettmann ArchiveJFK sat down with legendary CBS newsman Walter Cronkite on the lawn of his Hyannis Port residence, where cameras captured the pair waiting as crews made the final technical preparations for their televised interview. When the weekend came to an end, the cameras captured one final family scene: JFK Jr. running up the walkway of his grandfather’s home to greet Joseph Kennedy Sr., who was sitting on the porch. The toddler was later filmed running toward a waiting helicopter that would carry him and his father away from Cape Cod and back toward Washington.JFK would never celebrate another Labor Day. Less than three months later, on Nov. 22, 1963, the president was assassinated in Dallas at the age of 46.Ted Kennedy’s residence is pictured on July 22, 1990, in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. Getty ImagesHis death forever changed both the Kennedy family and the public perception of their Hyannis Port sanctuary. The homes that had once simply provided a summer escape became physical reminders of a lost era, while photographs of the family sailing, swimming and playing together took on an increasingly nostalgic quality.Yet the compound’s significance was never rooted solely in its connection to JFK’s presidency. For the Kennedys themselves, Hyannis Port had been home long before the White House entered the picture.JFK spent his final Labor Day holiday with his wife Jacqueline, their children, relatives and friends in 1963, just months before his assassination.Generations learned to sail there. Children and cousins crowded onto the lawns and beaches. Family members competed against one another in sports and piled onto boats for trips across the water. And during JFK’s final Labor Day weekend, many of those traditions were still playing out just as they had for decades. The surviving footage shows a president, but it also shows a father watching his children, a toddler maneuvering a boat, youngsters swimming off the family beach and relatives gathering for a day on the water.More than six decades later, those scenes offer a glimpse inside the Kennedy Compound at perhaps its most famous moment—not as the seat of an American political dynasty, but as the family playground it had been built to be.

Boris Johnson's Close Call: Russian Drone Strike Near His Train Sparks Outrage New

Boris Johnson's Close Call: Russian Drone Strike Near His Train Sparks Outrage

Published 22:09 13 Sep 2026 GMT+1Ukrainian rail officials have said it was ‘quite possible’ the strike had been aimed at his trainBoris Johnson has spoken out after a Russian drone strike almost hit the train he was riding in across the Ukrainian border. The attack hit a train at Yahodyn station, on the Polish border, just minutes after the train Johnson was on had departed the station ahead of schedule. The former British Prime Minister was heading to Poland after attending a major conference in Kyiv along with former Swedish prime minister Carl Bildt and a number of European security advisers. Rail operator Ukrzaliznytsia said in a post on Telegram it was ‘quite possible’ that the drone had been aimed at Johnson’s train, the Press Association reports. AdvertThe company said the train ‘had departed the station earlier than scheduled due to real-time adjustments to train timetables necessitated by the constant threat of Russian strikes’.Officials believe the strike was 'quite possibly' intended for Boris Johnson's train (Jemal Countess/Getty Images for Fortune Media)It also added that former CIA director David Petraeus had been on a different train that was still at the station when the drone struck. No casualties have been reported due to the incident. Ukraine’s foreign minister Andrii Sybiha branded the attack as ‘barbaric’ and said they represented ‘Putin’s terror ‘knocking’ directly on the doors of the EU and Nato’."Putin needs to understand that his barbarism will be met with decisive action that increases the cost of war for him to an unacceptable level. This is the only way to stop him," he said.Johnson, who was unharmed, has since taken to X to share a statement about the scary incident. He wrote: “I don’t know what warped logic drove Putin to blow up a stationary Ukrainian locomotive on the Polish border this morning.“What we can say for sure is that this is the kind of random and senseless attack Ukrainians are enduring every day – even on civilian railways. So far Putin has been responsible for the deaths of 1,700 staff of Ukrzaliznytsia – Ukrainian Railways. They and their daily passengers are absolutely heroic.”He added: “When are we going to give them the air defences they need? Why won’t we unfreeze Putin’s cash and give it to Ukraine? There is more than 140 billion euro in a Belgian bank account – and about £10 billion in London. Britain could show a lead.”Johnson hit out at Putin in a statement following the incident (Gavriil GRIGOROV / POOL / AFP via Getty ImagesIn the wake of the attack, the Conservatives described the incident as a ‘stark escalation’ by Moscow and urged the UK Government to increase defence spending.Stuart Anderson, who was appointed shadow minister for war preparedness on Sunday, said: “It is yet another reminder that Russian aggression is a real and growing threat to European security and, ultimately, our own national security.”Defence Secretary Wes Streeting said: “The strikes on Ukraine today, including on the gas works near Nato’s border, serve as a stark reminder of the bombardment that Ukrainians face every day.“Reckless, dangerous attacks on civilian infrastructure so close to Poland also underline the wider security threat Russia poses.“The UK continues to stand firm with Ukraine and will continue working with allies and partners to bolster European security.”Featured Image Credit: Les Kasyanov/Global Images Ukraine via Getty ImagesTopics: UK News, Ukraine, Boris Johnson, Vladimir Putin

Why the 'Monster El Niño' Isn't a Big Concern for the US New

Why the 'Monster El Niño' Isn't a Big Concern for the US

Updated 15:08 13 Sep 2026 GMT+1Published 15:07 13 Sep 2026 GMT+1A strong El Niño has the potential to have long lasting impacts for communities around the worldA 'monster El Niño' event is reportedly brewing around the world ahead of winter, and experts have outlined how communities in the US will be affected. If you've been paying attention to the weather forecast at all this summer, you'll be all too familiar with the term 'El Niño'.But while it might sound like just another bit of weather jargon, this particular climate pattern can have a pretty big impact on what winter looks like across the world, with the El Niño typically peaking in the last few months of the year. However, it's actually good news for those who live in the US, with experts noting the 'monster' weather event is not something to be 'overly concerned' about.Advert"For the most part, I don't see a monster El Niño event as anything the continental US has to be overly concerned with," says Patrick Rafter, assistant professor in the College of Marine Science at USF, speaking with TIME.Different parts of the world are expected to be affected differently. (Getty Stock Images)He notes that historically, the climate pattern has been linked to warmer-than-usual winters across North America, while the south tends to experience wetter and cooler conditions. It can also seemingly increase the likelihood of tornadoes in areas receiving wetter weather.Risper Nyairo, assistant professor in the department of environmental studies at Davidson College, adds: "We will likely see less severe or less frequent hurricanes, but probably more severe tornadoes with severe storms."Along the West Coast, in particular, researchers warned that El Niño could bring bigger waves and higher sea levels, while drier conditions in some areas could also increase the risk of wildfires. It's not expected to affect the US as badly as other parts of the world. (Getty Stock Images)But despite years of studying these weather patterns, the scientists stress that predictions are exactly that - predictions, and there is no guarantee they will play out as expected."There tend to be patterns that generally occur, but they aren't always guaranteed outcomes," says Marty Ralph, director of the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes.Outside the US - the impacts could be 'damaging'While experts don't expect America to experience the full impact of El Niño, other countries around the world may not be so fortunate.Nyairo adds: "The increased rainfall or intense drought cascades into other impacts on society."Lives may be lost in unprepared societies. There could be property damage. There could be other related natural hazards… There's a myriad of impacts."Australia, Indonesia and parts of southern Africa, including Zambia and Zimbabwe, are expected to experience particularly dry conditions, while parts of South America, including Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay, could see more rainfall than usual.Featured Image Credit: Getty Stock ImagesTopics: Weather, Environment, Climate Change, US News

What Happened to the 'Wide Neck Guy' After Viral Fame? New

What Happened to the 'Wide Neck Guy' After Viral Fame?

Updated 15:50 13 Sep 2026 GMT+1Published 18:14 30 Mar 2026 GMT+1He's had a lot of run-ins with police over the yearsA man who went viral back in 2018 for having an extraordinary sized neck has found himself in trouble with the law again. Bizarrely, when you think that committing a crime might just land you in long-term trouble, it can actually be the opening some people need, particularly if they look a certain way. The 'world's hottest felon' Jeremy Meeks had his life changed after his mugshot went viral, and it helped him steer clear of the law, but the same sadly cannot be said of Charles Dion McDowell. You might not remember the name but you'll certainly remember the neck, which looked like he'd been doing nothing but neck day at the gym for the last few years. AdvertMcDowell was initially booked into Escambia County Jail in Florida on charges of drug possession and fleeing from police in 2018 and he's had several run-ins with the law in the eight years since.Off the back of his initial viral fame, he made a video with 'Daddy Long Neck' - a rapper with an extraordinarily long neck - the following year.Their rap song 'Neckst Big Thing' together has six million views on YouTube, which you would presume would be from mild curiosity rather than the song actually being any good. Speaking to LADbible in 2019, he was asked if his unusually wide neck was the result of a medical condition. The pic that started it all (Escambia County Sheriff's Office)He said: "It ain't not medical condition. It was just my neck. I can't figure it out."I ain't gone to the doctor's or nothing for it. I honestly don't know."He said his neck wasn't that large as a kid, but he 'grew into it', adding: "My granddad's got a wide neck but his neck ain't like mine."Despite arrests for drug offences and evading police officers, McDowell still enjoys over 860k followers on Instagram. His bio on Instagram reads 'I ain't ever going back to that life', but a string of arrests in recent years tell a different story.'Wide neck guy' initially went viral in 2018 (Instagram/damnwideneck)In 2018, McDowell was allegedly involved in a police chase, and was arrested on suspicion of fleeing/eluding police, possession of meth, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug equipment. After paying a $57,000 bond and being released from jail, he allegedly found himself in a high-speed chase with police in Alabama two days later, Fox 26 reports.Charles was arrested again in 2019 (Escambia County Sheriff's Office)He was hit with further charges: eluding police, second-degree marijuana possession, driving with a revoked license, reckless driving, and improper lane usage. Then in August 2022, police issued a warrant for his arrest after he allegedly showed up at a woman's house and sent her threatening messages. And in 2025, he was facing several felonies, which included furnishing obscene material to a minor.McDowell was being held in jail without bond last year (Cherokee County Sheriff's Office)TMZ reported last year that McDowell has been accused of sending sexually explicit videos of a woman to her 13-year-old son, 16-year-old daughter, mother, and another unnamed person. The publication reported that he allegedly used a phone and laptop to send videos on multiple occasions to the victims.Charles' most recent mugshot from his 2025 arrest (Escambia County Sheriff's Office)According to jail records, McDowell is charged with numerous things, which include five counts of electronic transmission/post of video or photo of nudity without consent, four counts of electronically furnishing obscene materials to a minor, and harassing phone calls. It was reported last year that the former internet star was being held in Cherokee County Jail without bond.Featured Image Credit: Escambia County Sheriff's OfficeTopics: Viral, Social Media, US News

Art Garfunkel Considers Leaving America Over Trump's Policies New

Art Garfunkel Considers Leaving America Over Trump's Policies

Musician Art Garfunkel has joined the growing list of celebrities considering leaving the United States in response to President Donald Trump’s administration and policies. In an interview with The Guardian, Garfunkel, 84, told the British publication he is concerned about the country’s stance on key issues and is considering moving elsewhere.“I don’t like America’s position at all,” he told the outlet. “I’m not aboard, and I’m thinking of leaving the country, frankly.”Garfunkel expressed concern about climate change, international affairs and other political issues.“It’s real that the planet is getting warmer, that the water’s rising, that so many people are starving,” Garfunkel said in the piece that originally ran Sept. 4.He also criticized Trump’s decision to launch a military operation that resulted in the capture of then-Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who is facing a slew of federal charges while currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York.“When Donald Trump took over Venezuela, are those the new rules? Just take over a country and run it?” Garfunkel said.“It’s shocking, and you think, ‘How on earth are we gonna change the presidency?’ But Trump won’t last forever, so we’ve got to hope,” he added.Art Garfunkel, pictured at the 68th Grammy Awards pre-gala, recently announced he was considering fleeing the US because of President Donald Trump. Getty ImagesThe New York City-born musician is among the latest American celebrities to consider moving abroad or to have relocated while criticizing Trump’s presidency.Notably, comedian Rosie O’Donnell moved to Ireland after Trump’s 2024 election victory, while director James Cameron has long planned a permanent move to New Zealand and criticized Trump as his New Zealand citizenship approached.Former daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has said Trump’s election prompted her and wife Portia de Rossi to make their stay in the United Kingdom permanent.“We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in,'” DeGeneres told broadcaster Richard Bacon, according to the BBC in 2025. “And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.'”Garfunkel said he is concerned about the stance of the United States under President Donald Trump. Bettmann ArchiveIn August, O’Donnell returned to the United States for a weeklong guest-hosting stint on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The 64-year-old comic then turned her attention to her new residency in Ireland. On the Aug. 17 show, she referred to Trump as “Mango Mussolini.”“I read that Project 2025 and said, ‘Got to get myself out of here, you know,’ and I decided to go to Ireland, a place where people are driven to drink regardless of who’s running their country,” O’Donnell said. The New York City-born musician is among the latest American celebrities to consider moving abroad or to have relocated while criticizing Trump’s presidency. Getty Images for AFIThe celebrity relocations and threats to leave the country have drawn the attention of Democratic strategist Kaivan Shroff.“Celebrity threats to leave the country are usually pretty easy to roll your eyes at,” Shroff told Fox News Digital. “Most never actually do — Rosie O’Donnell aside. But Garfunkel is 84 years old and has spent more than six decades as one of the most recognizable figures in American music, so this doesn’t exactly read like somebody trying to launch a political brand.”“What’s interesting is the level of alienation he’s expressing,” he continued. “He’s looking at the country he has lived in his entire life and saying, essentially, ‘I don’t recognize our role in the world anymore.’”Shroff told Fox News Digital that he believes Garfunkel’s comments about moving abroad are more of a political statement than a commitment to leave the country.“The line about leaving America is obviously going to get the attention, but I don’t think that’s really what Garfunkel is saying here,” Shroff said. “He sounds genuinely disturbed by where he thinks the country is headed, particularly by the idea that the United States can simply decide the old rules no longer apply. People can disagree with his politics, but that kind of unease is hardly unique to Art Garfunkel.”Fox News Digital reached out to Garfunkel for additional comment.Fox News Digital’s Lindsay Kornick contributed to this report. Berat Buzhala's Bold Prediction on Hashim Thaçi's Fate in The Hague New

Berat Buzhala's Bold Prediction on Hashim Thaçi's Fate in The Hague

Baka Branka iz Rakovice izazvala pažnju emotivnim govorom o Srbiji

Foto: Filip Krainčanić/Nova.rs autor: 13. sep. Podržavate nas uvek i pružate prodršku.
