Shocking Verdict: Was Race the Unseen Hand in the Karmelo Anthony Case? New

Shocking Verdict: Was Race the Unseen Hand in the Karmelo Anthony Case?

House Democrats are raising concerns about how race and jury selection may have impacted the guilty verdict in the Karmelo Anthony case, with several arguing the verdict highlights the racism they believe exists in the criminal justice system.“A travesty, two lives ruined, and what struck me most is that you had an all-White jury,” Rep. Christian Menefee, D-Texas, said when asked his thoughts on the guilty verdict. “You had preemptive strikes that were used in order to achieve an all-White jury.”After Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Tuesday for the stabbing and killing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a high school track event, many activists and Democratic lawmakers have claimed the trial to be unfair and racist. Many are claiming the jurors were all White, and that this contributed to the rejection of Anthony’s self-defense claim.“Juries should represent the diversity of this country, and if a White kid was convicted of murder and it was an all-Black jury that did the conviction, people would say this is patently unfair,” Menefee said. Karmelo Anthony has been transferred to the Pack Unit in Navasota by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Texas Dept. of Criminal JusticeRep. Bill Clark/CQ-Roll Call/Sipa USA via Reuters Connect“So why should it be fair if it’s the other way around?”But sources close to the trial told Fox News Digital that there were three jurors who were racial minorities. They said that of the 18 total jurors, including alternates, six were minorities. Additionally, four Black men testified in defense of Metcalf, saying Anthony was not provoked in any way to justify stabbing the 17-year-old.Supporters of Anthony claim that he stabbed Metcalf as an act of self-defense, arguing he did not receive a fair trial. Some activists and Democratic lawmakers have called for further review of the case and urged Anthony to pursue an appeal.“Here is a case where a young man certainly appears to have been being attacked and defended himself,” Rep. Troy Carter, D-La., said about the case.Austin Metcalf, a junior at Memorial High School in Frisco, was stabbed in the chest by then-17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, a student-athlete from Frisco Centennial High School. Meghan Prall Metcalf/Facebook“It does bring in light the imbalance in our judicial system, as it relates to African Americans and people of color” Carter continued. “And that’s a shame. So hopefully, there’ll be an opportunity for some appeal and some further discussion.”“Case after case, after case you see that if it is a young Black person, they’re not allowed to be fearful, they’re not allowed self-defense, they don’t get the same standard ground opportunities that other people get,” Menefee said. “But then other races do.”Some lawmakers were less likely to directly blame the trial as unfair due to race, but were still sympathetic toward Anthony and were not blatantly opposed to the idea of looking further into the evidence in the case despite a verdict already being made.An Austin Metcalf supporter holds a sign in front of the Collin County courthouse after the verdict was reached in the Karmelo Anthony trial on June 9, 2026, in McKinney, Texas. Jonathan Jackson, D-Ill., said. “First of all, they need to reopen it and all the evidence needs to come forward.”“I think it’s an unfortunate circumstance all the way around,” Rep. Shomari Figures, D-Ala., said.He continued, “You have one young man who was killed. His family will never get to be with him again. You have another young man who, for all intents and purposes, thrown a lot of years of his life. A lot of the years of this life. If he does 35 years, he’ll be 50 — in his 50s — when he gets out. And it’s just totally unfortunate.”Throughout their criticism of the verdict, several lawmakers framed the case as part of a larger debate over race, self-defense claims and equal treatment for minorities under the law.“The American justice system does not work equally for everybody,” Menefee said.

Natasha Bure's Bold Response to Critics: Why Her Baby Bump Is Here to Stay New

Natasha Bure's Bold Response to Critics: Why Her Baby Bump Is Here to Stay

Candace Cameron Bure’s pregnant daughter, Natasha Perry (née Bure), will proudly show off her baby bump any time she wants — regardless of the critics. “Raise your hand if you will never understand people being offended by a pregnant belly being out?” Natasha, 27, quipped in a TikTok video shared Friday, June 12, subsequently raising her hand. “Let me just be the first to say: I do not care. I literally don’t care.” Natasha announced last month that she is expecting her first baby with her husband, actor Bradley Steven Perry. As Natasha started sharing maternity pics online, she received an onslaught of questions about her choice to reveal her bare baby bump. “I didn’t know this was a thing until I have received countless DMs from grown women telling me I need to put my belly away, buy a bigger shirt or sending me the lengthiest stories about how when they were pregnant, in their time, they didn’t do that,” Natasha said. “I love my pregnant belly, [and] I have never in my life been so proud of my body, so proud that I’m growing a little baby in there — and this is coming from someone that dealt with body insecurity … my entire life.” She continued, “I love that when I look down, I see my little baby. … I am making up for the first few months of pregnancy when [I was] trying to conceal [my pregnancy] and wearing the ugliest outfits you’ve ever seen. They’re uncomfortable, and now that I have a bump, I’m showing my belly till my baby’s here.” Natasha further stressed that she plans to continue rocking belly-baring outfits “until further notice.” https://www.tiktok.com/@natashaperry/video/7650328205487869215?_r=1&_t=ZT-97A2rd00EhC “One person that might love it more than me, also the only person that I truly care about, is my husband,” she gushed of Bradley, 27. “We were hanging out with friends the other day, and I wore, like, a sweat set [that was] very baggy. He saw me before I left, literally says, ‘I’m so sad I can’t see your pregnant belly. It’s my favorite thing ever.’ You know what? That man is my favorite thing ever.” Natasha further noted that her pregnancy will only last “for so long,” so she wants to savor each moment with a baby bump. “I’m only going to look like this for so long, and God willing so many times, so my belly will be out until further notice,” the actress stated. “If that’s not your cup of tea, we will just see you in a couple months.” Natasha is the eldest child of Full House alum Candace, 50, and her husband, Valeri Bure, who also share sons Lev, 26, and Maksim, 24.

Anna Faris on Life After Chris Pratt: The Unexpected Path She Took New

Anna Faris on Life After Chris Pratt: The Unexpected Path She Took

Anna Faris admittedly felt emotional after initially separating from her ex-husband, Chris Pratt. “I was feeling sad,” Faris, 49, recalled of her divorce in a Variety profile published Saturday, June 13. “I do feel like I had enough gumption, enough of a core, and I have tried to be careful about how much Hollywood infiltrates, but now I’ve been on a spectrum of fame for 26 years, so I would be naïve to think that it hasn’t shaped who I am at this point. But, f*** the scrutiny.” Faris and Pratt, 46, were married from 2009 to 2018, welcoming their now-13-year-old son, Jack, in 2012. After the two actors separated, Faris found solace in her work. “I’m lucky that at that time I had my [“Anna Faris Is Unqualified”] podcast,” the Scary Movie actress recalled to Variety. “I wanted, like, four people to listen and to build my own secret community. I wanted an avenue outside of Hollywood as a way to connect with people.” Faris started her eponymous podcast in 2015 with “curiosity” and “a desire to connect” with guests, per a website description. “I used to do this thing on ski lifts where, if I was on a ski lift with a stranger, I’d say, ‘Do you want to have a really intense 10-minute conversation with me? And you can answer any question you want to,’” Faris told Variety. “I’d ask them questions like, ‘When was the first time you fell in love?’ I’ve had a constant desire to connect with people. I didn’t disclose a lot on the podcast, but I always felt like I could if I needed to.” According to Faris, producing “Anna Faris Is Unqualified" episodes “helped [her] a lot” during her divorce. “It made me think, ‘I know I could be happy if I’m writing because I’ve always loved that, and maybe that’s an avenue to make money,’” the actress told the outlet. “I was thinking of a version of retirement, but now, I feel like the opportunities are more bountiful than they’ve ever been! I’m just overwhelmed with gratitude. When people see me, they usually smile and say, ‘Oh, I love The House Bunny’ or ‘Oh, I love ‘Scary Movie’ or ‘Mom helped me through that hard time.’” Faris and Pratt have each found love again after divorce. The Marvel star is now married to Katherine Schwarzenegger, with whom he shares three children, while Faris married Michael Barrett in 2021.

NYC's Hidden History at Risk: Council Fights to Save Underground Railroad Site New

NYC's Hidden History at Risk: Council Fights to Save Underground Railroad Site

A bipartisan majority of NYC Council members is demanding Mayor Zohran Mamdani seize privately owned property in order to save a piece of Manhattan history tied to the Underground Railroad, The Post has learned.Councilman Harvey Epstein (D-Manhattan) fired off a letter Tuesday to Mamdani signed by 31 other members urging the mayor to work with the Council to use the city’s eminent domain powers to block a proposal to build a 100-foot-high commercial building next door to the Merchant’s House Museum in NoHo, where a secret passageway used to smuggle slaves to freedom was discovered in February.Experts say construction of the planned building will cause irreparable damage to the adjacent city-owned, three-and-a-half-story site—which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the earliest known location of Underground Railroad activity in NYC.NYC Councilman Harvey Epstein and 31 other Council members are urging Mayor Mamdani to use the city’s eminent domain powers to block a proposal to build a commercial tower next door to the Merchant’s House Museum in NoHo. Erik Pendzich/Shutterstock“The city should, as it has done in the past, take the steps necessary to continue preservation of this historic property, especially given its recent discovery as an African American Heritage Site,” said the pols, which also included Speaker and Manhattan Dem Julie Menin and Queens Republican Joann Ariola. The seized property would become NYC’s first “Underground Railroad Memorial Learning Center,” the pols propose. NYC and the state have used eminent domain —the government’s right to seize private property for what is considers a public benefit —to drive large-scale infrastructure and economic development like highways, Central Park, Hudson Yards and the Atlantic Yards project that included Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.Mamdani is already facing heavy criticism from real estate groups and conservative lawmakers for his Marxist “Fix the City” plan, which proposes seizing derelict buildings from negligent landlords and transferring ownership to favored “community land trusts” or tenants.Ariola defended the Council’s plan to use eminent domain.“This is American history being preserved,” the Republican pol told The Post. “Ordinarily, I would be adamantly against the city interfering with private development, but this is one of the rare occasions when I think such action is warranted.”The Merchant’s House Museum (right) is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the earliest known location of Underground Railroad activity in NYC. Knicks Fan's $20K Hotel Nightmare: What Did Wembanyama Do? New

Knicks Fan's $20K Hotel Nightmare: What Did Wembanyama Do?

He made one tall order — and it got him thrown out.A Knicks fan is crying foul after he booked a penthouse at the Ritz-Carlton for Game 4 of the NBA Finals — but was allegedly kicked out of the $20,000 hotel room because of a demand from San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama.Pennsylvanian Phil Godlewski was with a party of six, who spent a total of $750,000 on tickets to Wednesday’s game — and rented out one of the two penthouse suites on the 41st floor of the Ritz-Carlton on West 28th Street in NoMad.The Scranton entrepreneur — who was with his 11 and 9-year-old sons and his friend Ron Pavalonis, and his son — wasn’t told that Wemby was staying in the other penthouse suite. When Pavalonis was entering his room around 5 p.m., he said he saw Wemby exiting his own suite — presumably on his way to Madison Square Garden, and greeted the Spurs star player.“I hear Ronnie say five words. That’s all he said. ‘Good luck tonight, big guy,'” Godlewski, 43, told The Post.Just 10 minutes later, they got a knock on the door from the hotel’s director of rooms operations, Jean Choi — which they did not hear since their room was so big. So Choi — along with three men in black suits — just let themselves in, Godlewski claimed.“They opened the door illegally, and they actually entered the vestibule area. And she’s yelling from within the room, ‘Mr. Godlewski!’ I finally hear her and walk to the door and that’s when she told me, ‘I’m sorry, but you guys are going to have to leave the premises.'”“I said, ‘What? Why?’ And she said, ‘Because we were told you were harassing and waiting for the players to exit their rooms.'”Victor Wembanyama got Phil Godlewski and his group kicked out of the Ritz-Carlton penthouse they booked for Game 4. AP Photo/Frank Franklin IIGodlewski said his friend, Ron Pavalonis, left, only wished Wemby luck before he game, but the hotel claimed they harassed him. Courtesy of Phil GodlewskiGodlewski insisted Choi check the security cameras to confirm their party did nothing wrong — but she allegedly told him there were no cameras on that floor.“And that was a lie because I literally look up, and there’s a camera right over her head in the hallway,” said Godlewski, who got the whole interaction with the hotel on camera and said he has already contacted a lawyer.“She was just trying to just get us the heck out of there. She didn’t care what actually happened. She didn’t care how it happened. All she cared about was Victor complained to his security team.”Godlewski, second from top left, said he was never told not to talk to any Spurs players in the hotel. Courtesy of Phil GodlewskiWhile Godlewski said he understood the hotel taking precautions — since a Spurs fan was assaulted following Game 3, during which Wemby also shoved Jalen Brunson, becoming the city’s No. 1 nemesis — he couldn’t comprehend why the hotel didn’t just have the Spurs buy out the entire building for the night.“Not only did they not block out the hotel, but they put us on the same frigging floor as Victor Wembanyama,” he said. “What sense does that make? If you don’t want anyone around the Spurs, especially Victor, don’t book the penthouse directly next to him. It was a huge mistake on their part.”The entrepreneur paid $125,00 for each ticket to MSG for Game 4. Courtesy of Phil GodlewskiWhen they checked in, they were never told they would be staying on the same floor at Wemby, or given any warning not to speak to him.“If they had said, ‘Listen, you’re staying on the same floor as one of the players. You cannot engage with the player. You have to stay in your room until he leaves the premises, we would have been like, ‘OK, no problem.'”The Ritz-Carlton and Wembanyama’s agent did not reply to The Post’s requests for comment.Godlewski ended up booking the Trump International on Central Park West for $3,000, so actually saved $17,000.Godlewski’s sons already burned the signed Wemby jersey they had framed and hanging in their home. Courtesy of Phil GodlewskiBut the damage is already done.“My 11-year-old was a huge Wemby fan. He was devastated and couldn’t believe one of his heroes could do this to people. As we were in the car going to the Garden, he said, ‘Dad, when we get home, can I burn my Wemby jerseys?'” said Godlewski, whose son already burned his $3,500 autographed one.Godlewski said he is waiting for an apology from Wemby, and called the Spurs Game 4 loss later that evening a silver lining.“It was complete instant karma,” he said.“You will get what comes to you. And that’s exactly what happened that night.”
