Ed Sheeran in the Spotlight After Macklemore's Tour Departure New

Ed Sheeran in the Spotlight After Macklemore's Tour Departure

Updated 17:19 15 Sep 2026 GMT+1Published 16:08 15 Sep 2026 GMT+1He said that 'if we only focus on shouting the loudest, nothing will ever change'Ed Sheeran has released a statement regarding the removal of Macklemore as an opening act for his US tour shows after the rapper and DJ spoke in support of Palestine on stage.Macklemore had been opening for Sheeran at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium on 4 September when he said 'free Palestine' on stage, thanked others who had stood up for Palestinians and said he wanted people living in Gaza and the West Bank to know they hadn't been forgotten. It resulted in Macklemore being dropped from the rest of the tour, with him releasing a statement reiterating his support for Palestinians and saying that Sheeran was his friend who'd been put 'in a ****** up position' where his 'typical apolitical stance was being challenged in a way it never had been before'.Ed Sheeran said he was 'not complicit' and the decision to drop Macklemore was with the promoters rather than him (Kevin Mazur/WireImage)AdvertThe rapper and DJ said he understood by people didn't take sides, but added there was 'no neutral position between the oppressor and the oppressed' and that 'refusing to take a side doesn’t leave you in the middle'.Now Sheeran has responded with a statement of his own, saying on Instagram: "After Macklemore's performances at my New Jersey shows, venues on my upcoming tour dates communicated that they would pull the shows if he was still supporting."I was informed that this stance was based on how Macklemore conveyed part of his message during his performance, rather than on everything that was said."I spoke with the venues at length all week to try and build a bridge."I was also involved in direct talks with promoters along with activists on both sides to try and find a mutual resolution for all, but the venue's and promoter's decision was final."Macklemore coming off tour was the promoter's decision, it was not mine. Macklemore's contract for the tour was with the promoter, not me."I would never let down the fans who had made plans, nor would I abandon the touring crew and the other support acts and musicians who rely on me for work and to make a living.""I am not complicit"Sheeran went on to say he had used his platform 'to bring people from all backgrounds and cultures together', adding that he was 'not complicit' and had his 'personal views on this devastating conflict'.Sheeran said venues said they'd pull the shows if Macklemore was still with him (Larry Busacca/Getty Images for MTV)The musician wrote that while he had chosen not to make those views public, they did exist and 'it doesn't mean I don't care' or supported causes.Sheeran continued his statement by saying he doesn't use his professional platform for politics because 'my audience includes young people, often children, of all backgrounds', but he does 'respect Macklemore's strength of purpose to stand up and shout for what he believes'.He said: "I choose to use my fame and platform to be a place of safety and sanctuary, to maintain diplomacy and keep conversations open, not closed."If we only focus on shouting the loudest, nothing will ever change."I have spent this week trying to build bridges, to find a solution and unfortunately, was unable to do so. I know who I am, both as a person and as an artist, and those who know my heart know my values too."Macklemore accused of 'hate speech' Many have slammed Macklemore following his speech. Fellow musician P!nk shared a post calling for him to be removed from Sheeran's tour. She went on to say in an Instagram statement: "He stood in front of a stadium full of music-loving families, with violent images from a war on the screens, dedicated a song to the movement of his choice, and then took the mic to tell all of the Jews in the stadium that it wasn’t about them. You don’t get to decide that for us."P!nk slammed Macklemore (JMEnternational/Getty Images)Meanwhile, Robert Kraft, who banned Macklemore from performing with Sheeran at the Gilette Stadium in Massachusetts, which he owns, said the venue would not 'provide a platform for hate speech'.He added: "I agree with Macklemore, too many lives have been lost and there has been too much suffering, but only sharing selective information and ignoring the actions of Hamas is not honest and only advances more divisiveness and hate."On the other hand, a number of well-known musicians offered messages of support to Macklemore, including Paloma Faith, CMAT and Kneecap.UNRWA, a United Nations agency supporting Palestinian refugees, wrote on Instagram: "We are grateful to Macklemore for continuing to use his platform to speak up for and generously support Palestine refugees and their humanity."At a time when Palestinian voices and stories too often go unheard, we have the outmost respect for those who help keep the world’s attention on the people of Gaza."We stand with everyone who believes Palestine refugees deserve dignity, safety, and a future."Featured Image Credit: Kevin Mazur/WireImage for MTVTopics: Music, Ed Sheeran

Dave Franco Opens Up About Navigating Life Amid Brother James's Scandal

Updated 10:13 14 Sep 2026 GMT+1Published 10:08 14 Sep 2026 GMT+1He said he had 'gone down his own path in recent years' following his brother's sexual misconduct allegationsDave Franco was known for a long time in Hollywood, as ‘James Franco’s little brother’ but with the success of his career in the last few years he has become famous in his own right.Between 21 Jump Street, his messed-up horror film Together which he starred in alongside his wife Alison Brie, and his performance in Seth Rogen’s The Studio, Dave has been carving his own path.Comparisons to his disgraced brother persist however, and the actor has addressed this in a rare comment about James. The 127 Hours star was essentially cast out of Hollywood after allegations of sexual misconduct emerged in 2018 amid his Oscar campaign for The Disaster Artist.James was accused of sexual assault by an ex-girlfriend and was sued by multiple ex-students of his acting school. He was accused of being ‘sexually inappropriate’ by these students, and running a ‘Sex Scenes’ class. The actor has since admitted to sleeping with his students, but claimed the class was separate to this.AdvertDave has never spoken about the allegations made against James, with his brother coming forward in 2021 on the Jess Cagle Show and saying: “I don't want Seth [Rogen, who has cut ties with James] or my brother or anyone to have to answer for me anymore.Despite this, Dave gave a rare comment on his relationship with his brother in a new appearance on Dax Shephard’s The Armchair Expert podcast.Dave said he ‘loves his brother’ but has worked hard to make his own name for himself in HollywoodDave and James Franco (Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images for SXSW)Shephard and the 21 Jump Street actor were discussing what it was like to interview family members and those close to you, particularly how it leads you to ask questions of each other you normally never would.Dave pointed to an Esquire shoot where he interviewed his brother, saying he realised mid-interview: “Woah, we’ve never talked about any of this and you get kind of vulnerable and it's kind of nice and you learn about each other.”One of the co-stars discussed the fact they were surprised they’d ‘forgot’ Dave was related to James, with the Together actor saying it is ‘complicated’.He continued: “I’ve felt a lot more [his own person] in recent years. It’s a complicated thing where I love my brother and I'm so grateful for the advice he gave me coming through this business.”The actor said he appreciated watching how his brother ‘navigated certain situations’ and will ‘always be grateful for that’. He added however: “I think in recent years I've kind of gone down my path long enough that people have started to give me my own due." Dave said that this was especially hard because 'he’s a very talented [actor].'Shephard claimed it was ‘like Frank Stallone and Sylvester, but that Dave had risen up to be co-Sylvester’.Featured Image Credit: ANDER GILLENEA/AFP via Getty ImagesTopics: James Franco, Entertainment, Celebrity, TV and Film

Mitch McConnell's Return to the Senate Sparks Unanswered Questions

WASHINGTON — Mitch McConnell made a dramatic return to the Senate on Monday after a three-month absence due to health issues. The Republican senator from Kentucky, 84, was hospitalized on June 14th after a fall at home and then treated for pneumonia. He spent two months being hospitalized before finishing his recovery at home.He was spotted leaving his Washington home in a wheelchair and waving to cameras.Republican Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell, 84, waves as he is wheeled out of his townhouse on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, on Sept. 15, 2026. Andrew Thomas – CNP for NY PostMcConnell was hospitalized on June 14 after a fall at home and then treated for pneumonia. Andrew Thomas – CNP for NY Post“Today, I’ll cast my first Senate vote since I took a bad fall back in June. I’m really looking forward to being back on the Senate floor and seeing my colleagues,” McConnell wrote on X.Despite McConnell’s office releasing two photos of the senator and other lawmakers saying they spoke to him on the phone, McConnell’s prolonged absence sparked “Weekend at Bernie” style conspiracy theories. And Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, a Democrat, has repeatedly questioned if McConnell is fit to serve.“If he is not there on Monday, he has an explanation. He owes an explanation to the American people, to the people of Kentucky. You can’t not show up for work and not call and talk to your boss. And his boss is the people of Kentucky,” Beshear said last week.McConnell has missed 60 recorded votes, including ones on judicial confirmations, housing policy, Medicare regulations, and immigration procedures, along with multiple votes related to the war in Iran.He gave no interviews and made no public appearances during his recovery time.“After two years, two decades, actually, of dodging your questions, I wasn’t sure how many of you would be here today,” McConnell quipped to the press corps at the Capitol on Monday, per The Hill.“So I’m glad to see you. Time to get back to work, finish the job of this Congress,” he added.McConnell led Senate Republicans for almost 20 years before stepping down last year and being replaced by Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.)McConnell sits with his wife, former US Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, while holding what appears to be the July 12 sports section of the Washington Post in a photograph released by his office via REUTERSHe was first elected to the Senate in 1985 and is the 10th longest-serving senator in American history. McConnell is not seeking reelection. His current term ends in January. He is not the first senator to be away from the chamber for months at a time for health reasons.Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) was absent for two months in 2023 during treatment for depression. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) did not vote during his final eight months in office before his death in 2018.

King Charles Intervenes as Uganda Rejoins Prince Harry's Invictus Games New

King Charles Intervenes as Uganda Rejoins Prince Harry's Invictus Games

Published 19:55 14 Sep 2026 GMT+1It comes after the King reaffirmed Harry and Meghan as 'private citizens' King Charles has stepped in after a Commonwealth nation said it would be withdrawing from Prince Harry's Invictus Games in Birmingham next year. It's certainly been a noisy few weeks for the British royal family after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they would be moving back to the UK following a number of years in the US.The King issued a letter earlier this month describing Harry and Meghan as 'private citizens' and stated they were not to use their HRH titles after ditching their royal duties in 2020.The pair hit back at the statement, stating they were 'surprised' by the King's remarks ahead of returning to the UK .AdvertWell, last week, Uganda’s General Muhoozi Kainerugaba stated his country would not take part in the Invictus Games unless they received permission from King Charles.Harry founded the games in 2014 to help wounded servicemen and women.Harry and Meghan have recently returned to the UK (Jonathan Brady-Pool/Getty Images)General Kainerugaba, the son of Uganda’s president, told The Times: “I have factions in the Ministry of Defence that support that Harry-Meghan nonsense. I had to quash it straight away. I support the monarch. Period.”In a post shared on X, he added: "In order not to be construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, whom we deeply revere, Uganda hereby withdraws from the Invictus Games.“We shall not participate in anything that does not have His Majesty's approval.”However, in a recent development, Uganda's military leaders have said they will be competing in the games after all following a phone call with the King's principal private secretary, Sir Clive Alderton.Sir Clive told Uganda officials that the King had 'no problem' with the country's participation in Birmingham next year. The King's principal private secretary, Sir Clive Alderton (Chris Jackson/Getty Images)A Ugandan military spokesman said Sir Clive "encouraged the CDF [Chief of Defence Forces] to proceed with preparations" ahead of the Invictus Games in July 2027.The spokesman added: "In the telephone conversation, General Kainerugaba appreciated the King's message and clarity provided by Buckingham Palace on the subject, promising that the UPDF [Ugandan People's Defence Force] would resume preparations to participate in the upcoming games."In wake of the news, Rob Owen, CEO of the Invictus Games Foundation, stated "Uganda has confirmed it will continue to be part of the Invictus community."Owen added in a statement: "Uganda became our 26th nation earlier this year, joining a growing movement that provides year-round recovery opportunities for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans across the world."Featured Image Credit: Max Mumby/Indigo/Getty ImagesTopics: Royal Family, Prince Harry, King Charles III

Costco's Motor Oil Rationing: What Does It Mean for Shoppers? New

Costco's Motor Oil Rationing: What Does It Mean for Shoppers?

Costco has reportedly started rationing its house brand of motor oil this week, limiting purchases to two boxes per week, as drivers across the country continue facing higher gas and diesel prices. The membership-only warehouse club, which has long prided itself in selling products at discounted prices in bulk, has introduced the purchase limit after significantly raising the price of Kirkland Signature full synthetic motor oil, The Auto Wire first reported. The product—a 5-quart, two-bottle case of engine oil for gasoline-powered vehicles—is used during oil changes to lubricate and protect an engine’s moving parts, helping to reduce wear, manage heat, and keep the engine running efficiently. It is now listed on Costco’s website for $57.99, up from an average in the mid-$30s which the company had maintained for years, according to the automotive-focused news media. In the product details, Costco warns members of a "limit of one transaction per membership, with a maximum of two units every seven days." It is unclear how long the cap will remain in force.Other motor oil product purchases are also capped, with sales of a six-quart case of Mobil 1—currently costing $44—capped at five per member....According to The Auto Wire, there are only two reasons why a company like Costco would cap purchases of motor oil: either they are not confident they can keep it in stock in the future, or they think the price might rise so much in the future that would make no financial sense letting customers stock-buy the product now.Newsweek contacted Costco for comment by email on Monday and is awaiting a reply. Why Is Costco Capping Purchases—And Will Other Sellers Follow? While 10 percent to 20 percent of a synthetic motor oil like the one sold by Costco consists of chemical additives, between 80 percent and 90 percent of it is made of base oil, a product obtained by refining crude oil.Considering the spike in oil and gas prices that has followed the start of the war in Iran in late February, oil companies are now making more profit turning crude oil into petrol, diesel or jet fuel instead of motor oil ingredients. Because of this, they are likely to produce less motor oil. It is this supply squeeze which pushes prices up through manufacturers, distributors and retailers, until consumers see a higher price on the shelf even at a normally budget-retailer like Costco. On top of that, higher quality standards and more demanding tests for motor oil introduced in recent years have made production a costly business. For drivers trying to save money on oil changes by doing it themselves, this is bad news. Especially as Costco, the only company which has so far capped purchases, is not the only retailer affected by the motor oil supply squeeze.Oil prices were still surging on Monday, rising more than 3 percent from the previous day after a surge of around 9 percent last week following a fresh wave of attacks in the Middle East. Brent crude—the global price benchmark for roughly two-thirds to three-quarters of the world’s traded crude oil—rose above $100 a barrel last week and climbed over $108 on Monday, as Yemen’s Houthi forces launched a series of attacks on Saudi Arabia....Costco's major competitors have not introduced purchase limits as of now.Walmart offers equivalent-name-brand synthetic oil at roughly $32 per 5-quart jug, while a pack of two goes for nearly $64. AutoZone sells a pack of two bottles of Mobil 1 Standard Full Synthetic 5W-30 Engine Oil 5 Quart for $40.99. On Amazon, the same product goes for $31.97 for one bottle and $63.94 for two.Newsweek contacted Walmart, AutoZone and Amazon for comment by email on Monday and is awaiting responses.Costco’s Kirkland motor oil is a well-known low-cost alternative to premium brands, and its unusually attractive price might be a reason why the retailer has introduced limits on its purchase to prevent stockpiling and resale.Contact Newsweek editors on this story: Ben Kelly and James Debens

Tebligatın bugün parti genel merkezine ulaştığını söyleyen Sözcü yazarı İsmail Saymaz, tebligatta partinin "Yeni Parti" adını kullanamayacağının ve ismin değiştirilmesi gerektiğinin bildirildiğini aktardı.BAŞVURUNUN GEÇMİŞİ 2024'E DAYANIYORSaymaz, isim tartışmasının geçmişinde Yenilik Partisi'nin başvurusu bulunduğu bilgisini paylaşarak eski CHP milletvekili Öztürk Yılmaz'ın kurduğu Yenilik Partisi'nin, "Yeni Parti" isminin kullanılmasına itiraz ettiğini belirtti.2024 yılında bir grup vatandaşın "Yeni Parti" adıyla siyasi parti kurma girişiminde bulunduğunu belirten Saymaz, o dönemde de Yenilik Partisi'nin itirazı üzerine Yargıtay Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı'nın söz konusu ismin kullanılmasına karşı çıktığını söyledi.'ÖNLERİNDE İKİ SEÇENEK VAR'Saymaz, Yargıtay Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı'nın Yeni Parti'ye gönderdiği yazıda geçmişteki sürecin de aktarıldığını ve partiden ismini revize etmesinin istendiğini ifade etti.
