Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Pulled Their Kids From School

Share Post

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have pulled their kids from school just two days into the term over security concerns.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, to a new school after heavy traffic was straining their small security team, Hello! Magazine reported Monday.

“The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements,” a rep for the couple told the outlet.

“The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family,” the rep continued.

“This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there.”

According to the outlet, the family lives at a distance from the school, making the commute impractical and challenging for their security vehicles to remain in a convoy.

An insider explained that while Harry, 41, and Markle, 45, had security checks completed at the school before the term, they were unable to test the school run.

“It’s a real shame, because they absolutely adored the school, the kids and their parents,” a source close to the couple told the outlet.

“It was perfect for them in every way and the children really enjoyed their time there. They really wanted to make it work, but they had to make a difficult decision based on the fact that the team couldn’t make the school run operationally secure.”

Page Six previously reported that the private school costs more than $35,000 annually.

Archie and Lilibet were enrolled in a nearby school on Monday, with Hello! noting that Harry was spotted with his daughter in a reception area.

Additionally, the “Spare” author and Markle have already been added to WhatsApp groups for parents.

A rep for the couple wasn’t available to Page Six for comment.

The school move comes as Harry continues to fight to receive taxpayer-funded security despite not being a working royal, per the Telegraph.

Last week, the couple, who resigned from their royal duties in 2020, were granted a security review in light of their move back to England last month and were asked to provide details of their everyday routines, including school runs.

Harry and Markle are currently in the UK as “private citizens with commercial and charitable interests” after Page Six revealed they moved to be closer to King Charles III while he undergoes cancer treatment.

On Sunday, the actress gave an intimate look at her life in England with her family, showing her kids running through the countryside.
