Studentska lista osvaja većinu u parlamentu Srbije, donosi novu akademsku eru New

Studentska lista osvaja većinu u parlamentu Srbije, donosi novu akademsku eru

Studentska lista pobeda Ilija Srdanović / Goran Srdanov Nova.rs autor: 02. nov. Paris Jackson Demands $600M from Michael Jackson's Estate Amid Allegations of Withheld Inheritance New

Paris Jackson Demands $600M from Michael Jackson's Estate Amid Allegations of Withheld Inheritance

See more of our coverage in your search results. Paris Jackson is demanding $600 million from her late father Michael Jackson’s estate, accusing its longtime executor of keeping the children from receiving their inheritance. In a bombshell court filing, obtained exclusively by Page Six, the 28-year-old singer is asking a judge to order the estate to make a preliminary distribution of $600 million to the Michael Jackson Family Trust, arguing that there is no legitimate reason the money has not been transferred more than 17 years after the King of Pop’s death.Paris claims that despite the estate generating billions of dollars and accumulating hundreds of millions in cash, the trust intended to benefit her and her brothers, Prince, 29, and Bigi, 24, remains unfunded.Paris, snapped last month, is accusing the executor of her late father’s estate of with holding her and her sibling’s inheritance. WWD via Getty ImagesParis is demanding that the estate of the “Thriller” singer (pictured above) distribute $600 million to the Michael Jackson Family Trust. Getty ImagesThe petition, filed Oct. 29 in Los Angeles Superior Court, takes aim at executor John Branca, accusing him of maintaining an “iron grip” over the siblings by controlling when and if they receive money from their father’s estate.Branca, an attorney and chairman of The Michael Jackson Company, was initially hired by the King of Pop in 1985. Branca resigned from Jackson’s team over financial matters in 2006, before rejoining in 2009 — eight days before Jackson died.Michael’s will stipulated that his children should start receiving income from their respective portions of the trust when they turned 21. However, Paris claims that never happened, and that they instead receive smaller amounts determined by Branca. She further alleges that Branca uses his control over those payments to discourage the siblings from questioning his handling of the estate. In the filing, Paris, pictured in October, accuses the executor of estate, John Branca, of maintaining an “iron grip” over “Bad” singer’s children by controlling the flow of money. BACKGRIDBranca, spotted in 2023, has been accused by Paris rejoined Jackson’s team only 8 days before his shocking death. Getty ImagesThe filing also claims that when Paris began challenging the estate’s administration last year, including objecting to what she described as Branca’s “non-contractual gifts” to colleagues, her concerns were met with “scorched earth litigation,” public attacks and a multimillion-dollar reduction in the money provided to her and her siblings.“This course of conduct and administration should not continue,” the petition states.According to the filing, Michael intended for each of his children to receive one-third of the principal in their respective trusts when they turned 30. They would then receive half of their remaining shares at 35, with the balance distributed outright at 40. Prince is set to turn 30 in four months, while Paris turns 29 in April and Bigi turns 25 in February.Paris argues that the estate has more than enough money to fund the trust while still covering its outstanding obligations. The filing alleges that once Paris, pictured above last month, began challenging the administration of the estate, her concerns were met with “scorched earth litigation.” Watto / BACKGRIDThe “Beat It” singer (pictured in 1983) intended for his children to receive one-third of the principal in their respective trusts when they turned 30, the filing states. Getty ImagesA spokesperson for the Michael Jackson Estate told Page Six, “Ms. Jackson’s counsel is well aware that the Estate is prevented from fully funding the charitable foundation and the individual trusts for the beneficiaries until several legal hurdles have been removed, including in particular the ongoing IRS litigation, where they sought $700 million in taxes and penalties from the Estate.“While we were able to secure a ruling to significantly reduce that amount, the matter has not been settled and could still change. Further, the claim that the executor has withheld or ‘cut’ payments is a complete fabrication. More than $200 million has already been distributed to or for the benefit of Paris and the other beneficiaries.”The statement continued, “The Estate looks forward to the time when all issues are resolved so that the charitable foundation and trusts can be fully funded as Michael wanted.”Among the transactions cited in the filing are the estate’s 2018 sale of its roughly 10% interest in EMI Music Publishing to Sony for $287.5 million, the 2020 sale of Neverland Ranch for $22 million and the 2023 deal with Sony, which agreed to pay $750 million upfront for a 50% interest in the estate’s remaining intellectual property assets. Those transactions alone generated more than $1 billion in pre-tax, pre-expense liquidity, according to the petition. The estate has also reported generating more than $2.5 billion in gross earnings through December 2024, with its overall value estimated between $2 billion and $3 billion. The late singer’s estate reportedly has generated over two billion in profit, the filing states. Getty ImagesParis alleges that the money generated by the estate is more than enough to not only cover the financial obligations of the estate, but also fund the trust. AP Photo/Emma Da SilvaAs of December 2024, the estate reportedly held approximately $850 million in cash and cash equivalents. Paris estimates that even after accounting for potential liabilities, approximately $600 million remains available for distribution. The petition argues that California law favors distributing estate assets to beneficiaries as soon as it can be done without jeopardizing creditors or other interested parties. She also argues that outstanding tax matters and litigation do not justify continuing to hold all of the estate’s assets. The petition notes that nearly all significant creditor claims and litigation have been resolved or disposed of favorably, with only certain claims remaining.Paris is asking the court to order Branca to transfer the $600 million to the family trust, or whatever amount the judge determines to be appropriate. In 2024, Jackson’s estate reportedly held approximately $850 million in cash and cash equivalents. WireImageParis believes that after accounting for liabilities, approximately $600 million remains available for distribution. GC ImagesShe is also seeking reimbursement for her legal fees and costs from estate assets. The matter is scheduled for a December hearing. Michael died on June 25, 2009, at age 50. He named his family trust as the sole beneficiary of his estate, with Branca also named as trustee. AI Glasses Convert Silent Speech to Text, Raising Privacy Concerns New

AI Glasses Convert Silent Speech to Text, Raising Privacy Concerns

See more of our coverage in your search results. Aarush Yadav, left, and Arnav Kumar are the founders and CEOs of The Subvocal Company. The Subvocal Company Noisy co-workers will be seen and not heard.Slow typing and distracting voice notes could be rendered obsolete thanks to cutting-edge, AI-powered glasses that translate your unspoken words into text instantaneously — without making a sound.Launched last week by San Francisco tech firm Subvocal, these state-of-the-art tech specs use sensors to detect the tiny facial movements people make while articulating words.“There are no limitations,” declared Yadav (pictured). The Subvocal Company“When you’re mouthing words, even if you’re really discreet with it, the muscles in your face and inside your mouth are moving right,” Aarush Yadav, who founded the company in February 2026 with Georgia Tech student Arnav Kumar, told the Post. “So what the glasses do is they emit radio waves similar to Bluetooth, similar frequency, but much lower power.”As the radio waves interact with the facial muscles, their signals change in ways that the AI can decode into speech — they literally read our body language. Using these optical interlocuters, wearers can convert their mimed words into text at a rate of 200 words per minute, allowing people to compose everything from emails to voice notes at the speed of speech sans making a sound. They can even allow you to communicate with fellow wearers across the room silently as well, as seen in a somewhat “Black Mirror”-esque video demo with nearly 12 million views on X.“There are no limitations,” declared Yadav, who helped develop the prototype for Stanford’s Treehacks Hackathon in February. He and Kumar have since raised $1.3 million in funding and took leaves of absence from school so they could pursue their startup full-time.What’s the point of these digital decoders? Yadav believes they could replace clunky and sluggish keyboard typing as well as cacophonous voice-to-text software, effectively improving both workplace productivity and ambience. “Voiceover typing is obvious,” said Yadav. “It’s extremely fast and makes you so much more productive. But when out in public in the office or in the library, we couldn’t use voice AI.He added, “It’s just too awkward to talk into your computers and to other people as well.”According to Yadav, these subsonic speak-tacles could benefit everyone, including programmers, journalists and other office workers and even commuters — or perhaps more importantly, fellow straphangers tired of hearing loud train conversations. They’re also targeting heavy AI users. “A lot of AI native people type out very long prompts to AI very often,” he said. “If you have 10 agents running at the same time, you need to instruct the AI a lot. And that’s one of the main use cases for Voice AI right now.”The devices are currently available for preorder with an estimated March 2027 delivery. Early birds can get $200 knocked off the $699 price tag.The glasses are being billed as a new frontier in computer-interfacing tech. The Subvocal CompanyThe subvocals have generated mixed reactions. “We’ve gone from typing to talking to our computers, and now we’re moving to communicating without making a sound,” gushed popular X account Science Girl. “This is awesome.”Another viewer dubbed the accessories “insanely cool.” “I am constantly on planes/in public whispering into my earbuds with Wispr Flow (voice-to-text dictation software),” they wrote. “This would be such an improvement.”However, others feared that the incantation-esque mute mutterings could prove equally conspicuous.“Wearing the glasses and mouthing words to yourself seems maybe more embarrassing than just talking,” declared one critic.“Mumble rap is back and is weaponized,” quipped another.Yadav and Kumar believe the spectacles could make communication more efficient and inconspicuous, whether it’s a convo between coworkers or a call on a train. yurolaitsalbert – stock.adobe.comDr. Rafael Yuste, a Columbia University neuroscientist and director of its NeuroTechnology Center, told the Post that he had mixed feelings as well. “I am intrigued but cautious: it’s a clever engineering step for human-computer interaction, but Subvocal hasn’t published accuracy figures, so I’d call it promising rather than a breakthrough until independent data appear,” he told the Post. While these are muscle rather than mind-readers, Dr. Yuste said the “more physiological data we generate,” the greater the “privacy implications,” especially if that data flows upstream to companies or governments. Not to mention that bypassing typing and speaking could have unintended cognitive consequences. “Writing and articulating words are part of how we organize and refine our thinking, and offloading all of that could weaken those processes in ways we don’t yet understand,” Yuste said. However, Yadav claimed that this new mode of computer interfacing could lessen, rather than increase our reliance on technology. “If you go to a park right now and you look at everyone around you, they’re going to be looking at a device,” he insisted. “The point of glasses is to pull you away from a device like your phone and put the computing in the background.” “So if you’re able to interact with them without touching a screen and without anyone hearing, you can use it anywhere you want and AI can do the work in the cloud for you while you can be present in the moment.”Yadav added that “still improving the accuracy” and “design” of the subsonic speech specs, noting that the ones in the video are an “early prototype.”“We’re moving really fast on that,” he said.

Social Security Email Praising Trump Raises Hatch Act Violation Concerns

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is facing scrutiny after sending a mass email praising President Donald Trump just days before the midterm elections. On Friday and Saturday, Americans with online Social Security accounts received emails in which Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano explicitly credited Trump with improving the agency. "Under President Donald J. Trump, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is transforming into a model of excellence, one that meets and exceeds customer expectations for fast, accurate, and secure service," Bisignano said in the email.Read More on PoliticsLegal experts are questioning whether the message crossed federal restrictions on political activity by government employees. The email’s political praise of Trump as well as its proximity to the election have raised questions regarding a potential violation of the Hatch Act, a federal law restricting certain partisan political activity by executive branch employees.Newsweek reached out to the SSA for comment via email. Why It MattersThe SSA oversees benefits relied upon by tens of millions of retirees, people with disabilities and their families. The email controversy comes immediately before voters head to the polls in consequential midterm elections and follows earlier criticism from Democratic members of Congress over SSA emails lauding Trump. The Hatch Act, enacted in 1939, restricts federal employees from engaging in certain political activities in their official capacity and is intended to prevent government authority and resources from being used for partisan purposes.Social Security Administration Commissioner Frank Bisignano speaks during a Columbus Day event in the East Room of the White House on October 9 in Was...The October 30 and 31 email was sent under Bisignano's name and praised the agency's performance specifically "under President Donald J. Trump," describing SSA as "transforming into a model of excellence." Bisignano is simultaneously serving as SSA commissioner and chief executive of the IRS. A separate IRS email also praised Trump's economic policies."Last year, President Donald J. Trump signed into law the Working Families Tax Cuts, landmark legislation that ushered in a new era of tax relief and prevented the largest tax increase in American history from taking effect," Bisignano wrote in that message. "Hardworking Americans like you are keeping more of what they earn because of President Trump's historic tax cuts." The IRS email included a disclaimer saying that the agency "does not generally send e-mails to taxpayers" and that the message was "for informational purposes and does not constitute a communication about a taxpayer's specific situation." Could the Email Violate the Hatch Act?Several legal experts have raised precisely that question, although there has been no official ruling that Bisignano or SSA violated the law over this message.Kathleen Clark, law professor at Washington University in St. Louis, told The New York Times that the emails appeared to function as "propaganda" rather than public-service announcements. Richard W. Painter, University of Minnesota law professor who previously served as White House ethics lawyer under President George W. Bush, was more explicit about the timing."They're doing it just before the election to persuade people that President Trump is doing a good job," Painter told the Times, adding that he regarded the messages as inappropriate. The Hatch Act prohibits covered federal employees from using their official authority or influence for the purpose of interfering with or affecting an election. Violations can result in disciplinary sanctions, although whether a particular communication violates the statute depends on the circumstances. At least nine of Trump's 15 Cabinet secretaries had nevertheless faced formal accusations of Hatch Act violations in recent months, according to Time. The latest controversy follows a similar dispute earlier this year. In July, Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Ron Wyden of Oregon, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico and Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island challenged Bisignano over another SSA email praising Trump. That email was sent July 2 and referenced Trump six times, according to the senators. They accused SSA of spreading misleading information about Trump's tax law while using an official government communication channel to promote the president."This was an unusual communication that served no legitimate purpose: rather than receiving necessary information about benefits or a critical communication from the SSA, recipients received a partisan, politicized message — containing multiple misleading statements — that heaped praise on President Trump," the senators wrote at the time. The senators also accused Bisignano of "abusing the millions of email addresses" obtained through my Social Security accounts or other means and said the communications threatened the agency's integrity. What Happens NextThe most significant unanswered question is whether the latest message will result in a formal Hatch Act complaint or investigation.Violations of the Hatch Act can carry a range of disciplinary consequences from a reprimand, suspension, demotion or even dismissal of an official.Newsweek’s reporters and editors used Martyn, our AI assistant, to produce this story.
