Pleasure Island Looks Like The Last of Us After Decade of Decay New

Pleasure Island Looks Like The Last of Us After Decade of Decay

Most of the park’s buildings are covered in overgrowth (Picture: SWNS) Eerie photos have shown the crumbling remains of a theme park left to rot for a decade as a £70million redevelopment plan flounders. Pleasure Island in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, was a favourite destination for families and thrillseekers before it shut for good in October 2016. Ten years after its closure, the 57-acre site and crumbling buildings have been reclaimed by nature – and are more akin to a scene from The Last of Us than a theme park. Aerial images show its faded ‘castle’ buildings surrounded by vegetation, with 20ft-high shrubs creeping up their walls. Weeds have taken over the former dodgems building and waterpark features, while the vast site has become a magnet for urban explorers and anti-social behaviour. The buildings have been left to rot since the park closed (Picture: SWNS) And locals fear the attraction could be left to rot for longer after an ambitious £70million redevelopment plan ran into issues. One local said: ‘I don’t understand why this has not been opened up again as another theme park in that time; it’s been that long. ‘That would actually create jobs and bring in more tourists. My kids used to love this in the 90s, but at the minute it looks like a massive eyesore. ‘It’s such a huge chunk of land just wasted; I don’t think any of us want to see it in ruin.’ Another local added: ‘Something needs to be done, or else it’s going to become even more of a hotspot for urban explorers. We can’t be having it sit untouched like that for another ten years or so; it’s not good for the area or the environment.’ Pleasure Island opened on May 27, 1993, and was divided into six themed areas: Africa, Kiddies Kingdom, Morocco, Old England, Spain and White Knuckle Valley. Most of the park’s rides have been sold to other theme parks (Picture: SWNS) But the park is now stripped bare of its iconic rides, with the vast majority sold to attractions around the world. The family-favourite Boomerang rollercoaster is now at a park in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the Alakazam ride ended up more than 3,000 miles away at Kuwait’s Winter Wonderland, where it is now called ‘Fly Away’. More than 3,500 days after Pleasure Island closed, the vast site is earmarked to become a ‘Centre Parcs-by-the-sea’ style destination. The £70million revamp includes 272 holiday lodges, a Lidl and its own Costa Coffee. A planning application was submitted in 2023, but three years on, the council is still arguing over what will be built on the land. Late legal challenges from Tesco and another party questioning ‘retail impact viability’ and environmental details mean it could take years before the bulldozers clear the site. North East Lincolnshire Council have deferred the final planning decision to an unspecified future date, leaving residents fearing the site will remain an eyesore for years to come. Why Taylor Swift’s ‘Patient Zero’ Has Fans Revisiting Joe Jonas New

Why Taylor Swift’s ‘Patient Zero’ Has Fans Revisiting Joe Jonas

Published 13:41 5 Oct 2026 GMT+1Theories have been doing the rounds speculating who the song is aboutTaylor Swift’s new song ‘Patient Zero’ has only been out for a matter of days, but listeners are already convinced they may have worked out the real-life story behind it.The track appears on The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, an expanded edition of Swift’s 2025 album. It finds the singer looking back at a relationship with a man whose bad behaviour apparently continued long after they were together.Except, there’s another woman in the story.AdvertRather than painting her as a romantic rival, Swift positions herself as someone who understands exactly what she has been through. That premise has sparked a theory that ‘Patient Zero’ could have been inspired by Joe Jonas and his ex-wife Sophie Turner.Swift and Jonas briefly dated in 2008, when both were still teenagers. There are rumours and fan theories that the song is about Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner (Photo by Lionel Hahn/Getty Images)Their split became pop culture history after Swift claimed he ended their relationship during a phone call lasting just 27 seconds.More than a decade later, Jonas married Game of Thrones star Turner. The couple tied the knot in 2019 and welcomed two daughters before Jonas filed for divorce in September 2023.What followed was an intensely public separation, including a legal dispute over arrangements for their children. Their divorce was eventually finalised in 2024.It was during the fallout that an unexpected connection caught fans’ attention: Turner began spending time with Swift. The two women were photographed together in New York, and Turner later revealed just how significant Swift’s support had been during that period. Speaking to British Vogue in 2024, she said: “I’ve never been more grateful to anyone than I am for her because she took my children and me, and provided us with a home and a safe space.”That friendship now looks particularly interesting in light of ‘Patient Zero’.The song revolves around the idea of a woman recognising troubling behaviour in a man because she experienced it first.Swift turns the medical term “patient zero”, which is commonly used to describe the first identified case in an outbreak, into a relationship metaphor. In the chorus, she sings about knowing ‘the devil on his shoulder under his halo’ before offering solidarity to someone else caught in the same situation: “But if you’re sick of him, I got you / I was patient zero.”Swift was romantically involved with Jonas years before Turner, while Turner later became one of Swift’s friends as her marriage to Jonas ended. The sequence fits the basic framework of the song, but there are obviously some fairly large caveats.Swift has not said ‘Patient Zero’ is about Jonas, Turner or anybody else. She has spent much of her career watching listeners attach names to songs that may combine real experiences, fictional elements and details taken from several relationships. There are competing theories too. Some fans believe the track contains echoes of Swift’s six-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn, particularly because ‘Patient Zero’ shares medical imagery with ‘You’re Losing Me’, a song widely associated with the end of that relationship.Others have suggested the subject could be a composite rather than one identifiable ex.Still, the Jonas-Turner interpretation has one thing going for it that many Swift theories do not: there really is a well-documented friendship between Swift and a woman who subsequently divorced one of her ex-boyfriends.Given Swift’s reputation for turning tiny pieces of personal history into much larger stories, that coincidence was never going to escape the internet’s attention.Featured Image Credit: youtube/@TaylorSwiftTopics: Music, Entertainment, Taylor Swift, Celebrity

France’s Education Protests Escalate as Unions Unite Against Lecorny New

France’s Education Protests Escalate as Unions Unite Against Lecorny

🇫🇷 Student protests continue to escalate across France, with nearly 500 schools suspending classes today as demonstrators resort to violent tactics, including smashing storefront windows and hurling projectiles. https://t.co/soJrLPk2Bz — Political Pen (@politicalpen_) October 5, 2026Mobilizimi ndryshon nga protestat e mëparshme studentore, pasi nuk u shkaktua fillimisht nga një reformë e vetme.

EU Sets a Condition for Vučić: What Does It Demand on Milan Radoičić?

PV: 488

Why an $26,000 HOA Bill Could Force Beverly Albright Out New

Why an $26,000 HOA Bill Could Force Beverly Albright Out

See more of our coverage in your search results. An 81-year-old California homeowner says she will be forced out of her longtime home after her condo association slapped each resident with a $26,000 emergency assessment — as furious neighbors fight back against the massive bill.Owners at the 198-unit Vilamoura at Rancho San Clemente condominium complex were hit with the special assessment to fund a major roof replacement project, according to ABC7.“Retired, single, what, lose my house? I wouldn’t qualify for a loan to refinance. So where do you go?” Beverly Albright told ABC7.The 198-unit Vilamoura condo complex in San Clemente. ABC7Beverly Albright, 81, fears the assessment could force her to move. ABC7Albright, who lives on a fixed income, told the Los Angeles Times that her children have already had to help her financially and that she is considering borrowing money to cover the charge.“I will have to move,” she told ABC7. “I’ve worked very hard to make it so that I could be here.”Residents say they were given several ways to cough up the money: pay the more than $26,000 bill outright, split it into two payments or enter a payment plan that initially adds more than $2,000 to their monthly costs. That comes on top of regular HOA dues, which resident Megan Blanda said already run more than $500 a month.“They can’t throw a $26,000 bill at us because the roof has been neglected all these years,” Blanda, 42, told The Times.Residents say the aging roofs don’t qualify as an emergency. ABC7The homeowners aren’t just fighting the price tag — they’re challenging the HOA’s decision to classify the work as an emergency.Residents contend the roofs were a long-known maintenance issue and therefore should not qualify for an emergency assessment that can be imposed without a homeowner vote.“It was not an emergency; it’s deferred maintenance,” homeowner Noah Martin told ABC7. “And so, then we as members should have a vote on how we want to take care of the roofs.”Some residents also argue that the roofs are not currently leaking and say they want the association to seek multiple competitive bids before moving ahead with the project. The HOA, however, maintains that replacing the roofs is necessary to prevent potentially severe damage.James R. McCormick, an attorney representing the association, told The Times that an independent expert found deteriorated waterproofing and problems with the original tile installation and warned that delaying replacement could lead to serious interior damage.McCormick acknowledged that roof maintenance “should have been planned for and performed in prior years,” but said the work now needs to be done.San Clemente residents are fighting back against the massive HOA assessment. Thomas – stock.adobe.comThe overall project is expected to cost a combined $5.2 million, including about $500,000 for fire-suppression system repairs. Residents who fail to pay could face even bigger consequences. The association has sent lien notices warning delinquent homeowners that the process could ultimately lead to foreclosure. Now a group of residents is attempting to recall members of the HOA board and take control of the association.Blanda and other homeowners involved in the effort say they obtained an estimate for a temporary weatherproofing plan costing roughly $400 per owner, which they believe could protect the roofs through the winter while a longer-term replacement is planned. The association disputes that delaying the full replacement is a viable solution.“The unfortunate reality is that this recall process will not change the status of the roofs or otherwise obviate the need for immediate roof replacement,” McCormick said. The San Clemente fight comes as steep special assessments become increasingly common at aging California condo developments, where associations are grappling with major maintenance bills, rising insurance costs and new safety requirements.

6 Ways Your Mind Turns Uncertainty Into Anxiety—and How to Interrupt It New

6 Ways Your Mind Turns Uncertainty Into Anxiety—and How to Interrupt It

1. Your brain fills information gaps with threatsWhen facts are missing, the mind rarely leaves the space empty. It starts writing explanations, often favoring danger because danger feels important. A delayed reply becomes rejection; a closed-door meeting becomes bad news.Separate what you know from what you are imagining. Write two short lists: confirmed facts and possible explanations. This does not erase uncertainty, but it prevents one frightening interpretation from quietly presenting itself as reality.2. You mistake constant thinking for useful preparationReplaying a problem can feel responsible, especially when the outcome matters. But productive planning creates a decision or action; rumination keeps circling the same questions without producing anything new.Ask yourself, “Is there a step I can take today?” If yes, make it specific and small. If not, choose when you will revisit the issue. Giving thought a boundary helps distinguish genuine preparation from mental repetition that only deepens distress.3. Your body reacts before evidence arrivesUncertainty can trigger physical tension before you have decided what anything means. A tight chest, restless energy or shallow breathing may then seem like proof that something is wrong. The sensation becomes part of the story. Before analyzing the situation, settle your body enough to think clearly. Unclench your jaw, lengthen your exhale, stand up or walk briefly. The goal is not forced calm; it is avoiding major conclusions while your nervous system is sounding an alarm.4. You keep checking for relief that never lastsRefreshing your inbox, rereading a message or repeatedly asking for reassurance can reduce anxiety for a moment. The relief fades, so you check again. Over time, checking teaches your mind that uncertainty is unbearable unless it is constantly monitored.Create a reasonable interval before checking again—perhaps 30 minutes for a non-urgent message. Expect some discomfort. Each time you wait without disaster, you practice carrying uncertainty rather than demanding immediate relief from it.5. You confuse possible outcomes with probable onesAn anxious mind can generate vivid worst-case scenarios and then treat their emotional intensity as evidence. Something being possible, however, does not make it the most likely outcome. Your imagination is showing range, not making a forecast.Name three alternatives: the feared outcome, a neutral outcome and a manageable positive one. Then ask what evidence supports each. This widens your attention without pretending everything will be fine and helps you respond to likelihood rather than vividness.6. You postpone living until certainty finally appearsThe deepest cost of uncertainty is often not the feared event but the life placed on hold while waiting for answers. You cancel plans, withdraw from people or delay meaningful work because enjoyment feels inappropriate before the issue is resolved.Choose one ordinary activity to continue despite not knowing: cook dinner, attend the class or call a friend. Moving forward is not denial. It reminds you that uncertainty can occupy part of your life without controlling all of it.
