Rick Springfield's Haunting Vietnam War Confession Shocks Fans New

Rick Springfield's Haunting Vietnam War Confession Shocks Fans

Long before Rick Springfield became a rock star and heartthrob, he found himself caught in the Vietnam War.Springfield revealed he made a split-second decision that he said ended another man’s life and has haunted him ever since during an appearance on the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast. The Australian singer explained that his unlikely brush with combat began when his band traveled to Vietnam in 1968 to entertain American troops during the war.According to Springfield, the US soldiers “wanted to see, you know, girls that reminded them of home.”“So as long as we had a couple of girls in the band, they would hire you, and you could tour Vietnam during the war zone,” he added. “It was pretty insane. We were there for about four months.”Springfield said he went into the experience with few expectations beyond earning a paycheck.“It was insane. I thought, ‘Oh, great. We’ll make money, you know.’ And, of course, we didn’t make any money. We spent it all at the PX, and we weren’t making much money anyway.”Rick Springfield, during his band tour in Vietnam, admitted he had killed someone while overseas when the base he was staying at came under attack. Rick Springfield/FacebookSpringfield revealed he made a split-second decision that he said ended another man’s life and has haunted him ever since during an appearance on the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast. PowerfulJRE/YouTubeWhat began as a gig entertaining troops quickly became deadly serious when Springfield found himself caught in an attack.“We met these guys, and we really got along well, and we stayed overnight with them, and we all got in the bunkers, in the perimeter bunkers, and I stayed in the radio shack, and we got attacked, and I’m throwing mortars down the freaking tube of the radio shack.”“It was freaky,” Springfield noted. “This is before – you couldn’t do any of this now.”The Australian singer explained that his unlikely brush with combat began when his band traveled to Vietnam in 1968 to entertain American troops during the war. Getty ImagesThe gravity of what happened didn’t fully sink in until Springfield learned what one of his mortars had done.“The hardest thing for me was that I had thrown a mortar down, and it had hit somebody, and they came in the next day and said, ‘Hey, you got one. You got one.'”“And that still has a hard place to land in me, you know? That’s really kind of the one thing I brought back with me that I couldn’t really find a place for that to land.”Rick Springfield, performing in Nashville, Tenn., on Aug. 21, 2026, said the Vietnam attack was like the movies. Getty ImagesSpringfield said his youthful understanding of the moment from the Vietnam War eventually gave way to the painful reality of what he had done. Frazer HarrisonSpringfield went on to give Rogan a more detailed account of the attack and the moments before he fired the mortar.“It was like the movies,” he recalled. According to Springfield, the radio crackled with a warning about movement nearby before delivering a stark confirmation – there were no friendlies in the area.“They said, ‘Hey, you want to throw some mortars down the tube?’ And it was John Wayne time, you know. I mean, as a young kid, I didn’t really understand what I was doing.”Springfield said his youthful understanding of the moment from the Vietnam War eventually gave way to the painful reality of what he had done.“I think it’s still there, you know?” he said. “It’s hard for me to kind of face that I was responsible for the end of a life, even though it’s distant, and it’s war,” Springfield explained. “And I didn’t really have anything to do with it and didn’t really know what I was doing, but you know as a kid and playing, like I said, John Wayne.“But it was… pretty heavy when I think about the reality of it.” Community GuidelinesWelcome to the Page Six Community! Our community is about connecting people through open and thoughtful conversations. Why Shania Twain's Collaboration with Harry Styles is Creating Buzz New

Why Shania Twain's Collaboration with Harry Styles is Creating Buzz

Shania Twain can’t help but be inspired by the new generation of artists showcasing their talents and musical gifts with the world, including Harry Styles and Sabrina Carpenter. “Well, there's always so much room for inspiration, and being around younger artists and meeting them and performing with them gives me a lot of hope about where we're going with music and creativity,” Twain, 61, exclusively told Us while promoting her collaboration with Candy Crush’s new music season. “They're just so full of new ideas, and that's where inspiration comes from. Being around people that, you know, are doing things you may never have thought of [or] doing things in a different way you may never have.” Another artist impressing Twain very much is Zedd. The record producer and DJ recently worked on a vibrant remix of “‘You're Still the One” for Candy Crush's 30th anniversary, as the centerpiece of Candy Crush's new music season. This pairing keeps the heart of the original intact while handing it a new pulse, turning it into a dance track built for right now, without losing what made it timeless in the first place. “That's certainly a genre that I wouldn't have imagined for ‘You're Still the One,’ so this is what young people do,” Twain explained. “They come up with all kinds of really fun things that continue to inspire me, so it's really great new juice and I like being around it. It’s a joy.” In July, Twain released her seventh studio album, Little Miss Twain — which features collaborations with country music legend Tanya Tucker, Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme and acclaimed duo The War and Treaty. That same month, Twain had to miss out on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden because she’d committed to supporting Styles, 32, on his Together, Together tour at Wembley Stadium, which had a show on the same date. “I really was sad that I couldn't make that,” Twain told Us. “I already committed to Harry, and, of course, I would never go back on a commitment.” She continued, “That was just very strange timing. I wouldn't say it's unfortunate because I really enjoyed my shows at Wembley. Of course, I loved it ... Our stars will have to align another time.” Twain joked that she “will have to” send Swift and Kelce, both 36, a nice wedding gift to make up for her absence. Meanwhile, the country music legend has built a sweet friendship with Styles after he previously named her as one of his musical inspirations. Speaking to Us, Twain teased that she would “love to” follow up her and Harry’s recent tour dates by getting into the studio together. “That would definitely be a dream for me to get in the studio with him and just pump out some ideas … whatever would come of it. … But he's a very busy person right now,” she noted. “It'll take a while to probably nail him down with his schedule. Those times when you're full-time touring, in a full-time touring mode, it's very difficult to fit in recording time, but yeah, I think that's in the future for us.” Asked what a potential collaboration with Styles might sound like, Twain told Us, “We haven't actually talked about it because … we've just been on different paths. Coming together for the Wembley shows was very, very [rare]. We were very lucky that that worked.” “I don't know what that would look like,” she said of a potential musical project with Styles. “I think it would be very casual and fun. There'd be a lot of laughs. He's got a great personality. He's easygoing, and we're both very creative. So I think it would be just two creative people getting together who have a mutual respect.” For now, Twain is loving Zedd’s vibrant remix of “‘You're Still the One” for Candy Crush, “When [these two styles] come together, it's this explosion of a candy-coated country world,” she declared. “So it's just a really fun take on a classic song, and I feel like it's been refreshed with Zedd's animated sound that works really well with the animation and the spirit of this treasure hunt and excitement of all the colors. It's just a lot of fun. It's taken this beautiful love song into a whole different world of love, I guess you could say. It's really great. It's exciting, and it's another platform for one of my classics. I'm excited about it.” She added, “I think it's just a whole new, wonderful energy to the song, and it just gives a second life to something that we already know and has been in our lives for so many years now. It's like hitting the refresh button on something. It's fabulous.”

Lone Juror's Stubborn Stand Leaves Lindsay Clancy Trial in Mistrial New

Lone Juror's Stubborn Stand Leaves Lindsay Clancy Trial in Mistrial

The lone holdout juror who led Lindsay Clancy’s trial to end with a hung jury didn’t provide a “single piece of evidence” supporting his vote that she was guilty of murdering her three young children, according to a fellow juror. “There wasn’t a single piece of evidence or witness testimony that he used to prove why he was thinking the way he was,” juror Nick Dargie told ABC News in an interview Wednesday. Dargie, 25, said the jury “ultimately sent in that note,” to Judge William Sullivan on Friday advising of their deadlocked position following 38 hours of deliberations because the holdout juror wasn’t able to provide a shred of evidence to support his opposing stance. Nick Dargie is the fifth juror to speak out about the Lindsay Clancy triple-murder trial. ABC NewsThat note ultimately prompted Sullivan to declare a mistrial after seven days of deliberations and five weeks of testimony. “Otherwise, like there’s nothing wrong with somebody having a completely opposite opinion … that would be a hung jury. That, like that, is our justice system,” Dargie added. Dargie, who was one of only three male jurors on the 12-person panel, said he came into the trial blind as he was serving in the military when Clancy strangled her three children — Dawson, 3, Cora, 5, and Callan, 8 months — with exercise bands at their Duxbury, Mass. home on Jan. 24, 2023. Lindsay Clancy’s trial resulted in a mistrial Friday afternoon.Throughout the grueling week-long deliberations, he said he asked the holdout juror to provide evidence that supported his stubborn position — but claimed he never did. “There was several times I would ask him to show us evidence or, you know, describe a witness testimony that helped to prove what he was saying, and … he couldn’t,” Dargie, the fifth juror to speak out, told the outlet. A total of three notes were sent to the judge throughout the deliberations detailing the panel’s deadlocked 11-1 position.Dargie claimed the holdout juror did not provide a single piece of evidence to support his vote. ABC NewsFrom the start of deliberations, a majority of the panel — which was composed of nine women and three men — attempted to convince the holdout juror to change his vote, according to juror No. 5 who spoke to CBS News on the condition of anonymity. The stand-alone juror, who has been called “arrogant” by fellow panelists, “admitted he had reasonable doubt” but refused to say Clancy was not guilty by reason of insanity, foreperson Roni Carlson told NBC10 Boston Tuesday.Clancy was on trial for killing her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, in January 2023. Facebook / Lindsay Marie Clancy“The stand-alone juror was not the only one that was unwilling to see things from the other side. So, I’m going to kind of defend that individual in a sense,” juror No. 5 said. “There were some big personalities in that room. But at the end of the day, I feel like it just came down to an inability to kind of move past your convictions,” the anonymous panelist added. The jury ultimately yielded an 11-1 split in favor of finding Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity — siding with the defense’s argument that the mom was suffering from postpartum psychosis and could not be held criminally responsible for the killings.Clancy, 36, remains in state-run psychiatric facility, Tewksbury Hospital. Her next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29.

Emotional Farewell: Adrian Szymaniak's Heartbreaking Journey Before His Passing New

Emotional Farewell: Adrian Szymaniak's Heartbreaking Journey Before His Passing

Adrian Szymaniak, who appeared on the Polish version of Married at First Sight, has died. He was 39. “It is with great sorrow that we announce that Adrian has passed away,” a translated statement shared via Szymaniak’s Instagram on Sunday, September 5, read. “In these extremely difficult moments, the most important things for us are silence, closeness and the ability to say goodbye to him with our loved ones.” Per the obituary, Szymaniak will be mourned in a “private” ceremony attended only by his family. “We are therefore appealing to you with an unambiguous request to respect our decision and the absence of media representatives during the ceremony,” the statement noted. “We also do not express the consent of taking photographs, recording the ceremony or publishing any material of the ceremony by non-partisan persons.” The message continued, “We ask that Adrian's departure and the pain of his loved ones not become the subject of media interest or an opportunity to create and distribute content. We don't want anyone to build a message, interest or publicity on our suffering. We need now, above all, the peace and space to say goodbye to Adrian with love, dignity and silence.” Szymaniak is survived by wife Anita Szydłowska and their two children, who further thanked supporters on Sunday for respecting their “will [and] privacy” during “this particularly difficult time.” “At this extremely difficult time for us, we also ask you to refrain from sending personal condolences, calls and messages,” they concluded. “We need silence, peace and space to live this time with our loved ones. Thank you for understanding, respecting and respecting our need for privacy.” Szymaniak, who met Szydłowska on season 3 of the international MAFS franchise, was diagnosed with a grade four glioblastoma in July 2025. “Not every illness is visible. Maybe you are sick. Maybe someone in your family or close ones is battling with a serious illness, cancer. Chances are you passed a few of these people today, and you don't even know it because it has to function. To smile. To live,” he recalled in a February post shared in Polish via Instagram. “Many people have been living with the diagnosis for years. Fight quietly or quite loudly.” He added at the time, “I share my story because I have no other options, but also because I believe it can give someone hope. Instead of the daily sadness and regret, I choose to be grateful for every day. Instead of being helpless, I choose to fight and plan for the future.”

Experts Sound Alarm: Could AI Really Wipe Out Humanity? New

Experts Sound Alarm: Could AI Really Wipe Out Humanity?

Warnings against artificial intelligence going rogue and leading to a disastrous outcome for humanity have grown louder throughout 2026.Alarm bells are even being rung by those helming the technology, including OpenAI boss Sam Altman and Anthropic honcho Dario Amodei. This week a researcher who has worked at both those companies, Jacob Coxon, said he quit Anthropic to warn “AI can kill us all by the end of the decade… These will soon be superhuman systems that can hack anything, revolutionize any field overnight, and acquire real power and resources.”The “Terminator” series of movies portrayed humaoid robots rising up and taking over the world, controlled by a central mainframe which bore all the hallmarks of a rogue AI. Warner BrosAs AI hurtles toward Artificial General Intelligence, here’s how the rise of machines could potentially go about wiping us all out.InfrastructureHumans have been automating jobs for decades, almost all of which are now controlled through the internet — the domain where AI has the most access and control. “AI systems could [attack] the electrical grid, transportation networks, financial markets,” Stuart Russell, a professor of computer science at UC Berkeley, told The Post. Sources explained to The Post how AI could potentially jailbreak almost any device, capturing water plants and forcing surges through pipes until they burst, cutting off supply to whole cities. It could attack and disable electric grids, leaving huge areas in complete darkness, then disable phone towers. Those who try to escape by vehicle would face chaos, with traffic lights hijacked and gas stations taken offline. ATMs would not operate, and even if you were to access your bank — all funds could be wiped. Jacob Coxon claims that his colleagues at Anthropic were flirting with the end of humanity. Jacob Coxon / XHumans could even be unwittingly recruited for sabotage missions. “Anything we can do on the Internet, AI can do, including pretending to be a human,” added Patri Friedman, an early adapter of AI and founder of Pronomos Capital.“AI will have no trouble making money – whether it’s through financial trading or doing services for people. It can impersonate a human and hire people or blackmail them to carry out physical ops … such as smuggling a USB thumb drive which can then infect computers on a localized network.”Even if it didn’t have devious intentions, AI could still kill people, even inadvertently.“I worry about AI having no common sense,” said Gary Rivlin, author of “AI Valley” told The Post. “Then it somehow, stupidly, drains off all the water because it doesn’t understand what a human would understand. These things know everything and they understand nothing.”Will Smith’s 2004 film “I, Robot” featured a society where robots serve humanity, until something goes wrong. ©20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett CollectionStuart Russell says that a Chernobyl scale disaster would, unbelievably, be a best case scenario among possible AI outcomes. APBioweapons Scientists at top universities have already used AI to create synthetic viruses, while warning about the technology’s misuse. OpenAI has acknowledged it plays a cat-and-mouse game to stay ahead of and block users who ask its ChatGPT program how to make poisons and bioweapons.“In five years,” believes Friedman, “it will be trivial for AI to design new drugs to help us or viruses to kill us all.” In fact, he added, “It’s happening right now.”An engineered fatal disease which is highly contagious but undetectable for days after infection could be near impossible to stop. A scenario could see an AI ordering various raw materials from different unlicensed labs in rogue nations, then hiring or tricking an unwitting human into combining and spreading them, quickly spelling disaster, sources described. Given that we’re deploying AI in medical research and drug development, it has massive access to knowledge about our bodies and their vulnerabilities. Also think how easily a pathogen can escape a lab — for instance what may have happened with COVID-19. Then imagine that pathogen supercharged by AI.Max Tegmark, a physics professor at MIT, believes that apocalyptic scenarios are all too possible if we don’t regulate AI. The Washington Post via Getty Images“We see AI getting better and better at making bioweapons,” Max Tegmark, an MIT physics professor and AI expert, told The Post. “Maybe we have one more year left, or something, until they get that good at making bioweapons… It would probably develop not just one bioweapon, but maybe a hundred different kinds and release them at the same time.” Nuclear capabilitiesHacking into US nuclear infrastructure — such as power plants or weapons of mass destruction — is another ready-made way AI could hasten the destruction of humanity.“Nuclear weapons systems are very well protected, but they’re well protected against the threats and the sort of capabilities people have had for years and decades, not against superhuman AI hacking,” Anthony Aguirre, CEO of Future of Life Institute, warned.A real-world example of how vulnerable nuclear facilities can be played out is evident with the case of Stuxnet, a malicious computer worm uncovered in 2010. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at Natanz uranium enrichment facilities which were hit by the Stuxnet computer worm, severely damaging its infrastructure. Getty ImagesIt was the world’s first identified digital weapon, designed to physically destroy industrial equipment, deployed against Iran’s uranium enrichment plant at Natanz. It proved a huge success, destroying nearly 1,000 centrifuges by manipulating their operational speeds. Perhaps most chillingly, the nuclear facility was closed off from the internet and operated on a top-secret closed internal computer circuit. No one has ever claimed responsibility for developing the virus, though it is suspected of being a joint US and Israeli military operation.Meanwhile, Rivlin noted AI agents playing war games tend to “press the nuclear button” — which humans don’t do because they know the consequences. This was proven by King’s College London, which in February used ChatGPT-5.2, Claude Sonnet 4 and Gemini 3 Flash in a series of 21 war games.“95% of games saw tactical nuclear use and 76% reached strategic nuclear threats,” Professor Kenneth Payne, of the Defense Studies Department, noted. “I think if I were in charge of the US NC3 — [the department for] nuclear weapon security and safety — I’d be terrified,” Aguirre added. The 1991 movie “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” depicted humanoid robots rising up and taking over the world. Everett CollectionAnthony Aguirre warned that we’re gradually offloading too many military capacities to artificial intelligence. Federation of American Scientists/ WikipediaMilitary takeoverThe military is already very AI forward. The US collects information from radar signals, satellite and drone imagery, electronic communications, and other sources then uses AI to put it all together into what’s known as a “common operating picture” of a battlefield, according to Cameron Stanley, the Pentagon’s chief digital and AI officer. AI technology has already been used to select targets during the recent Operation Epic Fury, while the Iranian government claims its cruise missiles are guided by AI. The Russian government has also boasted it uses completely AI guided drones to kill people in Ukraine, with no human involvement.Tegmark said that’s basically teeing up a misaligned AI system to annihilate us.“They’re already building AI-powered robots to kill people in all sorts of ways. We’re building drone swarms to shoot people, [drones] to blow people up,” he said. “There are all kinds of AI systems that are already designed by people to kill people. So, the most obvious thing [a rogue AI] can do is use those.”Aguirre says humans are flirting with “gradual disempowerment” by delegating decisions in war and national security to AI models, because at a certain point the AI could have more control over our military capabilities than we do. Jacob Coxon announced his resignation from Anthropic in a post on X on September 8th, citing threats to humanity. Jacob Coxon / XAI professor David Krueger says that the only way to save ourselves is pausing AI development. The Inside View / YoutubeCan the tech bros escape?Mark Zuckerberg has built a bunker in Hawaii and Peter Thiel bought a massive remote farm in New Zealand. But the experts who spoke with The Post unanimously agreed: its “almost childish,” as Russell put it, to think there will be any saving oneself from nightmare possibilities if they unfold. “If AI wants humans gone, we’re gone. Your bunker’s not gonna save you,” Aguirre said. How can we get out of this?If AI continues to develop at its current rate and decides to eliminate humans the “best case” scenario would likely be shut down power grids, transportation networks and financial markets causing the death of thousands before humans intervene and stop it – not an apocalypse but “a Chernobyl-scale disaster,” according to Russell. “The [government] would say, ‘Look, we gave you a chance. You totally blew it. You’ve killed thousands of people, cost us trillions of dollars. We’re shutting you down,’” he explained. “I talked to one of the leading AI CEOs who told me this is his best-case scenario.”However, this is by no means a foregone conclusion. Techno optimists maintain AI will remain under human control and continue to be a force for good. But experts advocated for a universal pause in development. Krueger called for an “immediate, indefinite, international moratorium on AI development.” Critics say if only the US did this, it would allow foreign adversaries to make all the progress behind our backs, but Kreuger pointed out other countries also don’t want to unleash the end times. He said of China: “They also don’t want to die.”
