Why Half of Americans Are Willing to Overpay for Gated Community Living New

Why Half of Americans Are Willing to Overpay for Gated Community Living

Forget granite countertops. The hottest home upgrade in America right now might be a locked gate at the end of the driveway.A new study finds that half of US adults would pay above market price for a house in a neighborhood with a gated or controlled entrance, and nearly a third say they’d shell out at least 6% more for the privilege. The numbers come from a survey of 1,000 American adults conducted by Tri-State Gate, a Westchester County company that installs automated driveway gates. A new survey of 1,000 US adults from Tri-State Gate finds that half of Americans would pay above market price for a home in a gated or controlled-entrance neighborhood. rodphotography – stock.adobe.comReal estate data backs up at least part of the trend. Homes in gated communities already carry a roughly $30,000 premium over comparable ungated properties, according to prior research from the American Real Estate Society. What makes the survey notable isn’t just the price tag buyers are willing to eat. It’s the disconnect between how dangerous people think their neighborhood is and how safe they actually feel inside it. Sixty nine percent of respondents said crime where they live hasn’t gotten any worse. Yet 72% admitted they don’t feel fully at ease at home. Only 28% picked the option “very safe, I feel genuinely protected,” while the majority landed on a more hedged answer, “mostly safe, but I stay alert.”“What stands out to me in this data is that people aren’t necessarily reacting to crime. Most of them said crime in their neighborhood hasn’t changed. What they’re responding to is a lack of control,” Matthew Prato, president of Tri-State Gate, told The Post.“A gate doesn’t change what’s happening in the neighborhood; it changes who can pull into your driveway without you knowing. For a lot of homeowners, that’s the difference between thinking about their home when they’re away and not thinking about it at all.” 32% are willing to pay at least 6% more for a comparable home in a gated community. Kent – stock.adobe.comThe study also reveals a broader unease around home security: 72% of respondents don’t feel fully at ease at home, even though 69% say crime risk in their neighborhood hasn’t changed. ricardoreitmeyer – stock.adobe.comThat unease is showing up in behavior, not just survey answers.Sixty nine percent of respondents now own a security camera or video doorbell, and checking the footage has become something close to a nervous habit. A third of camera owners say they check their feed multiple times a day, and when you add in people who check daily or whenever an alert goes off, more than eight in 10 camera owners are monitoring their homes constantly.Despite all that vigilance, most Americans are strangely passive when it comes to acting on it. Fifty six percent said it would take an actual break-in or a visible pattern of crime nearby before they seriously invested in physical security upgrades, rather than doing it preemptively. That’s a striking number given that break-ins remain rare. Security tech has become a fixture of daily life, with 69% owning a security camera or video doorbell and a third checking it multiple times a day. reshoot – stock.adobe.comMost people are reactive rather than proactive, as 56% say it would take an actual break-in or a visible crime pattern before they’d seriously invest in physical security. Kirk Fisher – stock.adobe.comJust 8% of households reported experiencing one or an attempted one in the past two years. Package theft is a far more common headache, with 23% of respondents saying a delivery has been swiped off their doorstep. The takeaway is less about actual danger and more about the psychology of feeling watched, or unwatched. Crime rates nationally have been trending down for years, and separate polling from Gallup has found only a small share of Americans call crime in their area a serious problem. But that data hasn’t translated into peace of mind. If anything, the rise of doorbell cameras and 24/7 footage may be feeding the anxiety it was supposed to cure, turning homeowners into round-the-clock monitors of their own front steps.

Ana Navarro Shocks Fans with Her Real Weight-Loss Secret

Ana Navarro admitted she’s taking Mounjaro, which she credited for her drastic weight loss over the past few years.“The View” host, 54, made the weight-loss drug admission on Tuesday’s episode of the talk show, while watching an old clip of herself dancing with Spanish singer and actress Charo.“Those were all pre-Mounjaro,” she said. “We’ve lost the equivalent of a baby hippo on that stage.”Ana Navarro acknowledged she takes Mounjaro on Tuesday’s episode of “The View.” YouTube/The ViewThe host made the confession while watching an old clip of herself with Spanish singer and actress Charo, noting, “Those were all pre-Mounjaro. We’ve lost the equivalent of a baby hippo on that stage.” YouTube/The ViewBack in June 2023, Navarro’s social media followers were convinced she’d been taking another weight-loss drug, Ozempic, after she posted a pic of herself on Instagram looking noticeably slimmer. The political commenter replied to the speculation over her supposed usage of the GLP-1, crediting her slimmer figure to going to a wellness spa in Mexico with her girlfriends and changing her lifestyle.“I spent time there learning to cook and eat healthier, reprogramming the way I think of my lifestyle, and being more active,” she said at the time, per People. “We did all sorts of exercise classes for hours a day. When we came back to Miami, we were determined to continue some of our healthy habits.” Navarro also said she was working with a nutritionist and a medical supervisor after learning she was pre-diabetic.The political commentator (pictured here in July) previously denied taking Ozempic in 2023. Bruce Glikas/WireImage“So it’s been a complete lifestyle change – except for the damn rosé and margaritas, which I can’t give up,” she shared.“I am not equipped to give anyone advice or endorse any solution,” she added. “We all have to figure out what works for each of us. It is a daily struggle for me. I still really like tequila and staying in bed with my poodle…🤷🏻‍♀️.”Navarro isn’t the only “The View” host on Mounjaro. In March 2024, both Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin shared on-air that they took the medication.Goldberg, 70, said she decided to take it after her weight went up to almost 300 pounds after filming the 2022 movie “Till.”Navarro (pictured here in May 2018) said she underwent a lifestyle change after visiting a spa in Mexico. Getty ImagesNavarro (pictured here in April 2025) said her weight has been a lifetime struggle for her. GC Images“I had taken all those steroids, I was on all this stuff, and one of the things that’s helped me drop the weight is the Mounjaro –– that’s what I use,” Goldberg said on “The View.”Hostin, 57, then chimed in and noted that she used Mounjaro after gaining 40 pounds during COVID.The lawyer recalled getting “nasty emails” after her transformation telling her that she’s “too skinny” and “taking the drug away from diabetics,” but she had greater “shame” before doing so.“There is shame when you’ve gained weight, and I have never experienced that kinda shame before,” she said. Hoda Kotb and Joel Schiffman's Heartwarming Reunion Sparks Attention New

Hoda Kotb and Joel Schiffman's Heartwarming Reunion Sparks Attention

Hoda Kotb and ex-fiancé Joel Schiffman are celebrating their daughters’ new school year. “It’s here! First day of school. 4th and 2nd grade! Whaaaatttt?” Kotb, 62, wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, September 8, alongside photos of herself and Schiffman, 68, walking daughters Haley, 9, and Hope, 7, to school. In one photo, Kotb and Schiffman stood between their kids outside their home as the family of four smiled at the camera. Kotb and Schiffman began dating in 2013 and adopted Haley in 2017, followed by Hope in 2019. The pair got engaged later that year. In January 2022, Kotb revealed on the Today show that she and Schiffman had amicably ended their engagement. “Joel and I have had a lot of prayerful and meaningful conversations over the holidays, and we decided that we are better as friends and parents than we are as an engaged couple, so we decided we are going to start this new year on our new path as loving parents to our adorably delightful children and as friends,” she said at the time. “It’s not like something happened. They say sometimes relationships are meant to be there for a reason, a season or a lifetime; this was for a season.” Despite their split, Kotb and Schiffman have remained committed to coparenting their daughters. In April 2022, the former Today host exclusively told Us that they had an “easy” dynamic. “He sees the kids,” she said at the time. “He takes them to school some, and he sees them on weekends. We’ve got a really nice, easy situation.” Kotb added that she and the financier were trying their “best” to make the situation work. “We make sure that the kids get plenty of him and plenty of me,” she concluded. Later, Kotb opened up about the reason behind their split, admitting that they were “growing at different paces.” “Joel is one of the best people I know, and he really is a great human being,” she explained on "The Jamie Kern Lima Show" in August 2024. “And I feel like I’m a pretty great human being, but sometimes two great human beings together isn’t quite enough to make it work.” Kotb further broke down their split in her September 2025 book, Jump and Find Joy: Embracing Change in Every Season of Life. “There was no cheating, no scandal, no big crisis. It sounds cliché, but truth is, we were just growing apart,” she wrote. “There wasn’t the drama you hear about in all the great country songs. The no-good, two-timing, whiskey-loving heartbreakers. It simply wasn’t us.” Kotb was previously married to tennis coach Burzis Kanga from 2005 to 2008.

Gwyneth Paltrow Reveals the Intensity of Her 'Love at First Sight' with Brad Pitt New

Gwyneth Paltrow Reveals the Intensity of Her 'Love at First Sight' with Brad Pitt

Gwyneth Paltrow is looking back on her instant connection with ex Brad Pitt. “I got cast in the movie [Seven] with Brad, and I met him on set, and we had kind of a love at first sight thing,” the actress, 53, said during the Tuesday, September 8, episode of the “Friends Keep Secrets” podcast. “It was pretty awesome. It was really fun.” Paltrow and Pitt, 62, starred in the 1995 crime thriller alongside Morgan Freeman and John C. McGinley. They quickly formed a bond on set and started dating. “He was so beautiful, and I think he was 31 and I was 22,” she recalled. At the time, Paltrow was just beginning her career while Pitt was a bonafide movie star. Their romance was her first public relationship. “I had movies coming out, so I was sort of getting famous on my own, and I was famous as his girlfriend,” she said. Even before they worked together, Paltrow was a big fan of Pitt. “I remember seeing Thelma & Louise in the movie theater and [thinking], 'That is the most handsome man,'” she confessed. Paltrow and Pitt ended up dating from 1994 to 1997. They got engaged in 1996 but called it off the following year. Paltrow admitted that her age and their busy careers led to the breakup. “We didn’t get married,” she explained on Tuesday. “I was just young, and we were working all over different parts of the world.” The Oscar winner shared that she was heartbroken by the split. “I was so bummed when we broke up, and I think that the press aspect and all that makes it feel larger than life in a way,” she said. “You have to carry this faux cultural importance piece and it’s this extra burden and this extra almost shame that it didn’t work out. It was hard.” Paltrow added that while her and Pitt’s romance didn’t succeed, the exes still have a lot of “love” for each other to this day. “I think there was an aspect of it that was very heady. I was very young, and he was this beautiful movie star. But he’s a great guy, and I love him to this day,” she said. “He’s a friend.” Paltrow ended up tying the knot with Chris Martin. The pair were married from 2002 to 2016 and share daughter Apple, 22, and son Moses, 20. She later found The One with current husband Brad Falchuk. Pitt, for his part, was married to Jennifer Aniston from 2000 to 2005 and Angelina Jolie from 2014 to 2019. He and Jolie, 51, share six children: Maddox, 25, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 18.

Prince George's Eton College Photos Spark Royal Buzz New

Prince George's Eton College Photos Spark Royal Buzz

Prince George has already mastered the art of making a school uniform look regal. The eldest son of Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton wore his pristinely tailored outfit in his official portraits for Eton College, consisting of a black tailcoat, pinstriped trousers, a black waistcoat, a white tunic shirt worn with an "arundel collar" fastened to it as well as cufflinks. George, 13, completed his sharp ensemble with polished black dress shoes. He gave a megawatt smile to the camera and donned a neatly groomed hairstyle with a side part. George posed for photos alongside a wall, and also with his hands clasped in front of him. George was joined by his proud parents to be dropped off for his first day of school in Berkshire, England, on Tuesday, September 8. (In addition to George, William and Kate, both 44, share Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.) On Tuesday, George arrived in a black suit with a blue dress shirt and tie before changing into his school uniform. George is following in his father’s footsteps, as William attended Eton College from 1995 to 2000 while his younger brother, Prince Harry, studied there from 1998 to 2003. A source exclusively told Us in 2021 that William and Kate were "open to sending George to boarding school in the future and have already checked out a few, but they feel 8 is a little young and want to wait until he’s slightly older.” “George going to school is a decision the Cambridges will make as a family,” the insider added. “They’d never force George to go unless he wants to and they feel it’s right.” At the time, George was open to the idea after hearing his parents’ stories about boarding school, which he thought sounded “super fun.” George is currently second in line to the British throne. The young royal is well “aware” that he’ll be the king of the U.K. one day, another source told Us in 2020.

Lindsay Clancy's Shocking Plea to Trump After Mistrial Stirs Debate

Lindsay Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, asked President Donald Trump to pardon the defendant after her murder case ended in a mistrial. "Mr. President, I would hope that you would consider this young lady and the person she is, what she's been through, and consider a pardon," Reddington said while appearing on the Tuesday, September 8, episode of Good Morning America. Clancy, 36, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder for the killings of her kids Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, in January 2023. She pleaded not guilty, and her defense argued throughout the trial that she shouldn’t be held criminally responsible due to her severe postpartum psychosis. The case ended in a mistrial on Friday, September 4, after the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict. Reddington admitted he was "upset" that the case ended in a mistrial due to one lone juror who refused to say she was not guilty. "He had agreed, according to the note from the forelady, that he had doubt but he would not present the law of reasonable doubt as presented by the judge," Reddington said of the juror. "That's not right and that's why I was upset." Reddington was also asked about potentially having a retrial, and expressed his hopes that he and Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz can come to an agreement. "He’s a very hard-charging prosecutor, a conservative gentleman," he said of Cruz. "I hope however after sitting through this trial and seeing the evidence that was presented from the government as well as from the defense, that he would revisit that issue and hopefully would be able to work something out that would be acceptable to both sides." Cruz previously shared his thoughts about a potential retrial on September 4, in which he declined to announce plans regarding the future of the case. "I appreciate the fact that there are strong feelings and opinions tied to this case," Cruz said outside of the courthouse following the ruling. "However, our job is to set aside our feelings and focus solely on the facts. The facts are Lindsay Clancy killed her three children and the evidence suggested to us that she was in control of her actions when she committed those homicides." While Reddington has asked Trump, 80, to pardon Clancy, the White House has not yet responded to the request. However, Trump did previously reflect on the case on the day the mistrial was declared. Trump told reporters that the case was on “television so much” that it was “hard not to follow it." "Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing. Can't be worse," Trump said of Clancy. "But you'll find out what the price to pay is. There'll be a price. It's going to be mental institution or jail or something, but I guess they're going to go through another trial. It's too bad."
