Florida woman accused of shooting storage worker who offered not to report her

Left: Kandice Jo Pierce (Brevard County Sheriff's Office). Right: Public Storage in Palm Bay, Florida (Google Maps).A 40-year-old woman allegedly opened fire on a Florida storage facility employee after she was caught sleeping in a unit, in violation of the lease agreement.Kandice Jo Pierce is charged with attempted murder. The shooting occurred around 10 a.m. Saturday at Public Storage in the 4000 block of Babcock Street in Palm Bay, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office said.According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, the storage facility employee was doing her morning rounds when she spotted two females who appeared to be living in a unit. The employee told them that they were not allowed to live or sleep in the unit. Pierce told the victim she "was the one that rented the unit and they should be allowed to stay there," police wrote. The employee said if they left, she would not report them to management. The victim began to walk away when Pierce called her back. According to the affidavit, the employee then heard a loud bang and felt pain in her face. She had been shot.Pierce ran away, and the employee ran and hid under a desk, where she called 911 for help. The victim had a small entry wound on her face below the eye. The bullet remained in her face, police said.Cops later found two spent shell casings near the unit.Investigators identified Pierce as the suspect because her name was on the lease.A detective from a nearby agency who tried to help Pierce with housing about a month ago said the other person in the unit was her 16-year-old daughter. Deputies found the daughter at a nearby gas station.More from Law&Crime: 70-year-old Publix shopper felt like someone 'punched him' in the face — then he saw a man standing next to him holding a box cutter: CopsThe girl said her mother was upset that they were being kicked out of the storage unit, so she shot at the employee twice, the affidavit stated.Pierce was not with her daughter, but deputies later found her in front of a nearby business and arrested her. She remains in the Brevard County Jail without bond. Her next court date is set for Nov. 10.

Teen died after friend mistook air rifle trigger for safety catch, inquest finds

Published 21:58 14 Oct 2026 GMT+1Connor Bell, 17, suffered a fatal brain injury after his friend accidentally fired an air rifle at him during a partyA teenage boy died after his friend accidentally shot him through the eye socket with an air rifle while at a party.Connor Bell, 17, was drinking with his friends at the home of Joshua Brown in Basingstoke, Hampshire on 8 November last year, an inquest heard. At the party, the teens took Brown’s air rifle and began firing at bottles from the conservatory. However, things took a tragic turn when Jack Beechey, then aged 17, fired a fatal shot at Bell after mistaking the trigger for the safety catch.AdvertThe teen suffered an ‘unsurvivable’ brain injury after the pellet entered his head through his right eye socket and caused him to have a cardiac arrest. He was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he died two days later. The inquest today (14 October), was told that Brown, who is now 18, had agreed with his parents that he’d have some friends around for drinks and that the air rifle, which they had owned for three weeks, would be left locked away in a cupboard. But the teen said that on the day, more friends than he’d told his parents about had arrived and they drank vodka, cider and beers instead of the box of 12 Peroni beers that his dad had bought for them.Connor Bell died after being shot with an air rifle (PA)During the course of the evening, the air rifle was taken from the cupboard and the teens used it to fire at targets in the garden.Later on, Beechey ran in from the kitchen and told Brown: “I shot Connor.”Beechey said that when Brown had asked him to put the rifle away, he’d decided to use up the remaining pellets as he thought it ‘would be safer’ and had believed he’d ‘completely unloaded it’.Beechey said it was as he walked into the kitchen that he accidentally fired the rifle by mistaking the trigger for the safety catch while Connor was standing nearby. He said: “I tried to put the safety on but it was the wrong trigger. The safety is directly in front of the trigger.”The inquest heard that after the emergency services arrived, Beechey told police: “I shot my friend with an air rifle, it was an accident.”A post mortem carried out by pathologist Dr Megan Jenkins found the cause of death to be a hypoxic brain injury caused by cardiac arrest resulting from a gunshot wound to the head.Coroner Jason Pegg recorded a conclusion of accidental death with a lack of weapons-handling skills contributing to the death. He added Connor’s death was ‘devastating’ and added: “This is a deeply tragic case.”In a statement released after the hearing, Connor’s family: “Connor was a much-loved boy, who was very sporty and had a large circle of friends.“This was a tragic accident which led to the loss of Connor.“His friends conducted CPR at the scene, which allowed our son to be an organ donor and save lives. He has since been awarded an Order of St John in recognition of his donation.“This incident was a tragedy for all the families involved and we are all supporting each other at this incredibly difficult time.“We would like to remind the public about the potential dangers of air rifles and the care needed to ensure they are safely stored. They should only be used by people with the necessary skills and weapon-handling training.”In a statement, Hampshire Police said: “As part of our initial enquiries, a 17-year-old boy from Tadley, now aged 18, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He has since been released and will face no further action, following discussions with the CPS and Connor’s family.”Featured Image Credit: PATopics: UK News

Collin Gosselin alleges Kate told him ‘You broke our family’ at treatment facility

Published 19:29 14 Oct 2026 GMT+122-year-old Collin Gosselin has opened up about his childhood in his new memoirCollin Gosselin has made multiple allegations about his mom in his new memoir titled 'In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood'.Collin is one of Kate and Jon Gosselin's eight children. He is one of the former couple's sextuplets alongside siblings Hannah, Alexis, Aaden, Leah, and Joel. They were all born in May 2004.There's also twins Cara and Mandy, who were born in October 2000.With their unusually large family, the kids and their parents landed their own TLC show Jon & Kate Plus 8, which premiered in 2007. Two years later, Jon and Kate divorced but the show continued and was rebranded as Kate Plus 8.AdvertJon and Kate's divorce undeniably divided the family, and Collin in particular has had a strained relationship with his mom over the years – something which he's shared further insight about in his new book (which hit shelves on October 13).Collin Gosselin, 22, has released a new memoir about his childhood (Michael Simon/Getty Images)What Collin says in his memoir about his momIn one part of his memoir he recalls being sent to a behavior facility by Kate when he was 12 years old. His mom had claimed at the time that Collin had 'unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies towards' family members, sparking his institutionalization, Page Six reports. Then, in 2023, Kate also said that she placed Collin in the institution 'following years of outpatient treatment which proved insufficient for his needs' and for her apparent safety, as well as his siblings'. She proceeded to brand Collin as 'a very troubled young man'.He was at the facility for almost two years before his dad obtained sole custody of him in 2018.Kate and Jon Gosselin pictured with their 8 kids in January 2007 (Heidi Gutman/NBC NewsWire)When Kate visited him, she allegedly said to Collin 'you broke our family'. The 22-year-old says she only visited him once and was 'horrified' by the weight he had gained. He penned in his book: "She warned us about eating healthy and what would happen if we didn’t. “But I didn’t really have a choice here. I ate what they gave me. And now, well, I was fat."Elsewhere Collin wrote that he had made origami gifts for his seven siblings while he was at the facility, but Kate 'refused' to take them to pass on to them."These gifts were my chance to remind them I existed. If she wouldn’t take those, she wasn’t going to take me," he said of this, per Page Six.UNILAD has approached Kate's rep for comment.Kate has received support from her fans following Collin's claims (Noel Vasquez/Getty Images)Kate addresses Collin's bookKate has been showered with support by her followers on social media, one of whom she replied to on TikTok.Somebody commented on a video she had posted on October 10, PEOPLE reports. They wrote: "I know you already know this, but you have the support of so many. Most importantly your seven precious children. I’m so frustrated that my FYP is being flooded with such terrible lies. It should be illegal to defame someone that way, but I just wanted to say you are doing a great job keeping your head up through all of this! We love you!"Kate replied to the comment thanking them for their sentiments. The 51-year-old former reality TV star said: "Thank you so much. Ukraine says Starlink speed cap disrupted drone missions without warning New

Ukraine says Starlink speed cap disrupted drone missions without warning

Ukraine's access to Elon Musk's Starlink internet service was restricted without advance warning overnight, disrupting battlefield operations against Russian troops, Ukrainian officials said on Wednesday.SpaceX, the company that operates Starlink, put a "speed limit" on Starlink terminals in Ukraine, Serhii Beskrestnov, an adviser to Ukraine's presidential office, said in a post to the Telegram messaging app.Ukraine depends heavily on Starlink terminals and the thousands of satellites orbiting close to the Earth to maintain communications and pilot its extensive drone fleets.Ukrainian officials said the cap was imposed late on Tuesday and had already impacted missions against Moscow.Newsweek could not independently verify the Ukrainian claims and has reached out to SpaceX for comment via email sent outside of regular working hours. Newsweek has also contacted the White House.Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday the Russian government had no information on reported Starlink restrictions in Ukraine. ...The apparent new constraints on Starlink access come as the U.S. pressures Ukraine to halt its punishing campaign of drone assaults on Russian oil refineries, which have contributed to surging diesel costs and dented Russia's export-reliant economy.President Donald Trump has sought to blame rising U.S. diesel prices on Ukraine rather than the U.S.-led war in Iran and Tehran's effective block on the Strait of Hormuz waterway, which have roiled the world's energy markets.Trump said on Saturday he had told Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, to stop striking Russian oil refineries as Republicans stare down the midterm elections, and bills at the pump for many U.S. consumers remain high."Zelensky has gone too far," Musk said in a post to X on Saturday.Beskrestnov said the military-grade version of Starlink was affected at speeds over 100 miles per hour. Serhii Sternenko, a prominent Ukrainian activist and a former adviser on drone technology to Ukraine's Defense Ministry, said "connectivity began to drop" when drones moved at more than 100 miles per hour."Our defense forces were not given notice of this limit, and this has resulted in the disruption of a number of missions," Beskrestnov said. Sternenko said a "number of critical missions" had been affected.Beskrestnov said the change "cannot be a coincidence" and was tied to the "current political situation." 'Looks Like an Attempt at Blackmailing'"SpaceX likely took these measures at the request of the Trump administration," added Sternenko, who did not provide evidence. "Politically, it looks like an attempt at blackmailing us into stopping destroying Russian refineries," said Oleksandr Merezhko, a member of Zelensky's Servant of the People party and the chair of Ukraine's parliamentary foreign affairs committee."If so, it looks really ugly, because it puts into danger life of our soldiers and our defense capabilities," Merezhko told Newsweek.Persistent Ukrainian drone strikes in recent months have targeted Russian oil and gas sites in the hope of cutting off oil revenue used to fund the Kremlin's war effort.Russia's president, Vladimir Putin, has said that Ukraine's drone attacks on oil refineries have cost Moscow roughly 1 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP).Moscow, in turn, has carried out its own attacks on Ukraine's power plants, grain-exporting southern ports and its factories to cripple Kyiv's economy.Zelensky said on Wednesday Russian drones and hard-to-intercept ballistic missiles had targeted Ukraine's energy sector around the capital and in the northeastern Kharkiv region, despite Trump declaring an "energy ceasefire" at the weekend....Russia's Defense Ministry said it had carried out a "massive strike" on four power plants in and around Kyiv, as well as an electrical substation. Moscow also said it had attacked two power plants in Kharkiv.Three people were killed in Kyiv, and hundreds of thousands of people across the country lost access to electricity on Wednesday, local authorities said."Such a demonstrative disrespect from Russia toward America has never happened before," Zelensky said. There have been no confirmed Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries since Trump announced the "energy ceasefire" on Sunday. On Tuesday, Zelensky said Ukraine wasn't alerted by its allies before Russian missile attacks for the second day in a row, raising fears the U.S. may have choked off Kyiv's access to intelligence.Ukraine's systems "detected these missiles only when they were already virtually on approach to Kyiv," Zelensky said.Trump said on Tuesday the U.S. was still sharing intelligence with Kyiv, but Ukrainian officials who still remember the U.S. briefly severing its access to American-derived intelligence in early 2025 will likely be wary.Separately, reduced Starlink access will hurt Ukraine's ability to intercept Russia's jet-powered Shahed drones before they hit targets like the Ukrainian capital, Beskrestnov said in a later statement on Wednesday.Musk has previously said Starlink would never be used as a "bargaining chip" in the conflict, even if he disagrees with Ukrainian policy.Poland's deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Radosław Sikorski, said in a message directed at Musk: "Big man, are you playing politics with your products again? As your European customers, we are watching you."Sikorski and Musk have repeatedly clashed online over Starlink use in Ukraine. The Diesel Deal Trump announced last week that Russia would immediately release an initial 300,000 tons of diesel to the global market, including American consumers, followed by 500,000 tons in November, amid sky-high prices at the pump in the U.S.Another 1 million tons would later become available, Trump said. The Treasury also relaxed sanctions on Russian diesel until April 2027 and authorized imports directly into the United States. The news was met with outrage from both sides of the congressional aisle and was heavily criticized by Zelensky, who called the agreement "absolutely terrible" and a gift to Putin. The move came less than a month after Trump signed into law a broad sanctions package designed to hack at Russia's ability to fund its war with Kyiv. The diesel deal was quickly condemned by seven Democrat and Republican senators who said that the Trump administration should "immediately reverse course" after handing Putin a "financial lifeline."On Saturday, Trump accused the Ukrainian leader of repeatedly rejecting opportunities to end the war with Russia and defying his warning against striking Russian oil infrastructure.“I think it’s time for Ukraine to get a new president,” Trump told reporters outside the White House. “I suggest they get a new leader who can make a deal, because he could have made many deals, and for some reason he never does.”
