Saudi Arabia Extends Riyadh Airport Closure After Houthi Strike Kills 12

See more of our coverage in your search results. Saudi Arabia on Sunday extended the closure of its main international airport as Houthi rebels threatened airstrikes across the kingdom, a day after a missile attack killed 12 people and wounded more than 300.Saturday’s strike on the Riyadh airport marked a major escalation of the war between Yemen’s Iran’s-backed Houthis and the kingdom. President Donald Trump said he was considering whether to join Saudi strikes against the rebels, a scenario that could prompt the Houthis to halt shipping through a crucial waterway and further restrict the flow of oil out of the Persian Gulf.As international leaders spoke out condemning the attack Sunday, the Houthis reported that two airstrikes hit Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, blaming Saudi Arabia. There was no immediate comment from Saudi authorities or reports of casualties.Saudi Arabia extended an airport closure after a Houthi strike killed 12 people and injured 300. APThe Houthi-run Health Ministry says 91 Yemenis have been killed and 168 injured by the Saudi-led coalition in five weeks. It said that 60% of those killed were women and children.Houthis renew threats to Saudi ArabiaAs Saudi authorities extended Saturday’s airport closure until at least 9 p.m. Sunday, according to Flightradar24, the Houthis said the kingdom’s airports were attack targets.Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, the group’s military spokesman, urged “everyone to take our warnings seriously.”The latest attack on the Saudi airport drew condemnations from Arab countries, including Iraq, Lebanon and Syria, as well as U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.“Attacks by Iran’s proxies are pushing the region into a spiral of violence,” Von der Leyen wrote Sunday on X. “They are destabilizing crucial global transport and energy nodes.”The attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marked a major turning point in the war between the Houthis and the kingdom. AP Photo/Attack killed people of different nationalitiesThe attack struck an airport complex housing terminals 3 and 4 for domestic flights, a regional official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak to the media. The Saudi statement said the dead included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals, a Palestinian, a U.S. citizen, an Egyptian, a Jordanian, a Syrian and a Sudanese. It said several hospitals were treating the injured.U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged in a social media post that an American citizen had been killed in the attack, which he condemned. The Egyptian woman was a flight attendant identified as Azza Ramzy, 28, who worked for the Saudi airline Flynas, according to the Egyptian state-run Al-Qahera New television.President Trump is weighing U.S. military action, saying, “We just found out about the recent attack. So we’ll make a decision. We move very quickly.” AFP via Getty ImagesTrump said he would consider joining strikes against rebelsThe attack is expected to increase Saudi pressure on allies, including the United States, to provide military support for the kingdom.Shortly after the attack, Trump said he was evaluating whether the U.S. should join Saudi strikes against the rebels. “We may. We’re going to look at it,” he said. “We just found out about the recent attack. So we’ll make a decision. We move very quickly.”Trump said later Saturday he planned to speak with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Asked if the U.S. might get involved, Trump responded, “We’ll find out.”The Houthis claimed attacks earlier in the week on King Khalid International Airport that killed three Saudis, including a pilot. The airport has no military facilities. The surge in attacks, including against other Saudi airports, military facilities and oil infrastructure, has come in the week since a Saudi-led coalition launched a major military offensive against the Houthis.Iran can use Houthis to pressure key US allyUntil recently, the Houthis had been largely on the sidelines of the Iran war. Now, the rebels are a way for Tehran to pressure a key U.S. ally. Houthi attacks, along with their control of the Bab el-Mandeb waterway, also threaten to add new disruptions to the flow of oil from the region. The Saudis and the Houthis began fighting in 2015 when the kingdom entered Yemen’s civil war on behalf of the internationally recognized government.Relative calm after a 2022 ceasefire ended in July when the Houthis resumed attacks, saying the Saudis fired on the Sanaa airport as a plane from Iran was trying to land. That revived anger over the Saudi-led blockade that has largely isolated Houthi-run areas. Now fighting has escalated, with the Saudi-led coalition providing air support for Yemeni government forces attempting to reverse recent Houthi gains along the Red Sea. Those gains gave the rebels better surveillance of shipping on the Bab el-Mandeb, a corridor that is a crucial alternative to the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has been attacking ships.Saudi Arabia is running low on missile interceptors and has asked France, Britain, Pakistan and Egypt to deploy air defense support to the region, regional officials told The Associated Press last month, with one noting that the U.S. has seen its own stock dwindle during the war with Iran.

Video appears to capture man requesting tiger photos before fatal enclosure attack

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Up Next Previous Page Next Page A video captured by a family visiting a wildlife park appears to show the moment a man politely asks for photos with the tiger that killed him before falling in its enclosure. Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster remains closed after the unnamed man in his 20s was killed by a Siberian tiger. The man was fatally injured after being pinned to the ground by the tiger at 1.30pm yesterday. Zookeepers fired warning shots to separate the tiger from the man but he was declared dead at the scene. Now footage appears to show the victim asking another visitor: ‘Excuse me, can you grab a shot of myself with the tiger?’ The woman agrees and the video falls silent, presumably while the picture is taken, before the man thanks her. He can then be heard asking for ‘one more’ picture three times before saying: ‘Thank you, lady.’ Witnesses say the man could be heard shouting ‘no, no’ during the attack (Picture: Yorkshire Wildlife Park) His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. Police have asked people not to share footage of the attack online (Picture: SWNS) A witness claimed to the Mail on Sunday the victim was then seen dancing to ‘psych himself up’, holding a mobile phone and wearing earpods, before climbing over the fence. A visitor to the park also said the victim appeared ‘agitated’ and was ‘grabbed by the throat’ within seconds of accessing the enclosure. He appeared to try to communicate with the tiger by making a fist and wagging his little finger. Some have speculated the gestures were Makaton – a language system that combines hand gestures, pictures and speech and which is frequently used by people with difficulties expressing themselves – though this is unconfirmed. He could be heard crying ‘no, no’ during the attack, witnesses claim. The park was evacuated following the incident and remains closed until at least Monday (Picture: PA) In footage of the attack circulated on social media, a woman’s voice could be heard saying: ‘I tried to stop him.’ South Yorkshire Police said it was aware of the footage of the attack online and asked people not to share it. A spokesperson for the force said: ‘At 1.35pm today (Saturday October 10) we received reports of a man entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. ‘The tiger subsequently attacked the man, resulting in serious injury. ‘Emergency services attended and sadly, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. ‘The man’s family is aware and is being supported by specialist officers. Our thoughts are with them at this distressing time. ‘Regarding rumours surrounding the condition of the tiger, the animal was uninjured and remained in the enclosure following the incident and there is no wider risk to the public.’ The unharmed tiger will not be euthanised following the attack. A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed two ambulances, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and a doctor attended the scene. Yorkshire Wildlife Park opened its doors in 2009, with the Land of the Tigers attraction opening in 2011. The attraction is on a purpose-built two-acre reserve for Amur tigers, an endangered subspecies with around 500 left in the wild. Pictures of the area show visitors can view the animals from a high walkway with fencing above the section where tigers roam freely. A statement from Yorkshire Wildlife Park yesterday said: ‘The safety and wellbeing of our visitors, staff and animals remain our highest priority. ‘The park is now closed and will remain closed tomorrow.’ Tickets remain on sale for entry to the park from Monday onwards. Naufragio rumbo a Yemen deja 109 muertos, incluidos 15 niños

Zelensky: Ukraine will halt refinery strikes if Russia stops attacks on its energy infrastructure

Editor : B.P.

Andy Burnham says No 10 confirmed Russian interference in Brexit vote New

Andy Burnham says No 10 confirmed Russian interference in Brexit vote

Burnham was told in No 10 that Russia did interfere with the vote (Picture: Reuters) Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said the UK is ‘clear’ that there was Russian interference in the Brexit referendum. He said that when he entered No 10 in the summer, he had asked whether Moscow interfered in the 2016 vote on whether to leave the EU and was given ‘the clear answer that yes, there was interference’. The Prime Minister said he believes it is important to put this ‘clearly on the record’ to help voters in Germany and France understand that some politics are ‘instigated by enemies’ amid the rise of far-right parties. Parliament’s Intelligence and Security Committee found in 2020 that the Government failed to fully assess the impact Russian state-run media and ‘troll’ accounts could have had on the EU referendum. Some have been urging Burnham to rejoin the EU (Picture: SOPA) Mr Burnham, speaking to the Rest Is Politics podcast to be released on Monday, said he spoke to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about the threat from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party when they met in Berlin this week. As Mr Merz struggles with the challenge of recent regional election successes for the AfD, Mr Burnham said: ‘One thing I did say to Chancellor Merz… is we need to support you in taking on the threat that you face and particularly the type of politics that you’re facing. ‘You know, he was saying to me that the AfD are clearly linked to Russia, funded, I believe. There is certainly misinformation, disinformation that is emanating from Russia into German politics.’ Mr Burnham aimed Russian information warfare during a speech to the UN General Assembly last month, saying at the time there was evidence Moscow tried to interfere with the 2019 general election. He told the podcast: ‘I asked the question coming to Downing Street, well, was there interference in the 2016 referendum from Russia? I’ve had the clear answer that yes, there was. ‘These things are important now to put clearly on the record, and I believe it helps voters in Germany and France understand that some of this politics is instigated via our enemies, namely Russia. ‘I think we’ve been too much on the back foot on that actually and we haven’t informed people sufficiently about the extent to which people are seeking to disrupt the political process from overseas.’ Mr Burnham set out plans in his recent Labour conference speech to find political consensus on the UK’s future relationship with Brussels, and has left open the possibility of a future manifesto pledge to rejoin the bloc. 9 Reasons Two People Remember the Same Conversation Differently New

9 Reasons Two People Remember the Same Conversation Differently

1. Attention determines what enters memory in the first placePeople can hear the same words without attending to the same information. One person may focus on the decision being made, while the other monitors tone, facial expression or signs of disagreement. Later, each reconstructs the exchange from different raw material. During a work discussion, a manager might remember approving a deadline, while an employee remembers the manager sounding doubtful. Neither memory necessarily covers the whole conversation; attention selected different parts before remembering even began.2. Different goals make different details feel importantWhat someone wants from a conversation helps determine what they notice and retain. A person seeking reassurance may remember warmth or rejection, while someone solving a practical problem remembers dates and tasks. Consider a medical appointment: the patient may retain the phrase “probably harmless,” while their partner remembers instructions to arrange another test. This is not always selective hearing in a dishonest sense. Their separate goals gave different details priority when the memory was formed.3. Memory often preserves meaning better than exact wordingPeople commonly retain the gist of a statement while losing its precise language. When they later recount it, they generate wording that fits the remembered meaning, which can sound like a direct quotation even when it is not. “I’m not ready to discuss this today” may later become “She refused to talk about it.” The summary may capture one interpretation, but it removes timing and nuance. Separating remembered meaning from remembered words can prevent arguments over quotations nobody recorded.4. Expectations can fill gaps without conscious inventionMemory reconstruction uses existing knowledge to connect incomplete details. Usually that is efficient, but expectations can supply information that was merely plausible rather than present. If a habitually late friend arrives after dinner starts, someone may later remember that the friend never warned anyone—even if a brief message was sent and overlooked. The person is not necessarily lying; the missing detail fitted a familiar pattern. Checking messages or notes is more reliable than debating whose recollection feels more natural.5. Emotion highlights some moments and obscures surrounding contextAn emotional moment can become vivid without making the entire memory equally complete. A cutting remark may be remembered clearly, while the sentences before it, the attempted repair afterward or who raised the subject first become less accessible. For example, someone may accurately recall being called “careless” yet forget that the comment referred to one specific invoice. Vividness can signal emotional importance, but it does not guarantee a full record of the exchange.6. People can remember information but misremember its sourceSometimes the content is familiar while its origin is unclear, a problem psychologists call source monitoring. A suggestion heard from a colleague may later feel like something discussed with a partner, or an internal thought may be remembered as a spoken comment. After several meetings about one project, a team member might insist a deadline was announced in Monday’s meeting when it actually appeared in Tuesday’s email. Calendars and written records help resolve source disputes better than confidence does.7. Later information can blend into the original eventWhat happens after a conversation can influence how it is remembered. Another person’s summary, a loaded question or repeated discussion may introduce details that eventually feel part of the original exchange. If someone asks, “Why was Alex so angry?” a listener may later describe Alex as angry, although the original behaviour was simply quiet or tense. This does not mean every later comment rewrites memory, but early independent accounts are useful when the exact sequence genuinely matters.8. Retelling strengthens a version, not a perfect recordingEach retelling selects certain details, arranges them into a coherent story and leaves others unused. The practised version then becomes easier to retrieve, which can make it feel increasingly certain. After repeatedly telling friends, “My boss dismissed my idea,” someone may lose access to the messier sequence: the boss questioned the cost, praised one feature and postponed a decision. Repetition can strengthen consistency without proving completeness, especially when every audience hears the same simplified account.9. Confidence and accuracy are related less neatly than assumedA confident memory may be accurate, but confidence also grows from repetition, coherence and the absence of competing versions. Meanwhile, a careful person may sound uncertain because they distinguish what they know from what they infer. In a family disagreement, “I’m almost sure it was Tuesday” may be better grounded than another person’s emphatic “It was definitely Friday.” When accuracy matters, ask what supports the memory—messages, locations, routines or independent notes—rather than treating certainty as the deciding vote.
