Why Squishy Toys With Syringes Are Alarming Parents and Officials New

Why Squishy Toys With Syringes Are Alarming Parents and Officials

Dangerous: Squishy toy marketed for age 3+ is sold with syringe Parents have been warned after a child was stabbed with a syringe that came as party of a squishy toy set. A probe has been launched over ‘stress relief’ toys, also known as fidget toys, marketed online that come with needles to inject bubbles or inflate the products. The Telegraph reported at least one child has been sent to A&E after being stabbed in the hand while playing with a ‘pimple popper’ squishy toy. Dangerous: Another squishy toy that was recently recalled posed a choking hazard Kate Dearden MP, the minister for consumer protection, said her department was investigating. ‘I know parents will be deeply concerned by them, which is why my department is actively investigating this issue,’ she said. Kerry Nicol, of the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI), said: ‘When a product that is very much aimed at children comes with a needle and syringe, something has gone seriously wrong. Bang: Warnings have been issued that some toys can explode if heated (Seven) ‘Children are being exposed to unnecessary risks because dangerous products can too easily enter the UK market through third-party sellers.’ The Telegraph reported being able to order several toys that came with needles, including one toy that came with a 5ml medical syringe from a third-party seller on Amazon. The toy came with no age restrictions or warnings. Officials in Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan have issued warnings over similar toys. Swallowing hazard: Another product that was deemed unsafe Katrina Phillips OBE, the chief executive of the Child Accident Prevention Trust, added: ‘Online marketplaces should have the same duty of care as the shops on our high streets.’ The latest issue comes after nearly 37,000 squishy toys were recalled due to a deadly ingestion hazard. ABC Trading was forced to recall its Squishy Dumpling Toys and Crazy Squib Ball Toys because the toys can expand and could cause choking if swallowed. Previously, OKK Trading recalled about 7,200 of its Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys because of choking hazards.

What Is Happening With Ronaldo? Two Conflicting Reports Stir Portugal New

What Is Happening With Ronaldo? Two Conflicting Reports Stir Portugal

Why Silent Artery Plaque Is Raising Concerns for Adults Under 30 New

Why Silent Artery Plaque Is Raising Concerns for Adults Under 30

See more of our coverage in your search results. A buildup of artery-clogging plaque may begin much earlier than many people realize, new research has found.About 1 in 13 adults ages 18 to 29 already had silent atherosclerosis, the hardening of the arteries from plaque, despite having no known cardiovascular disease, while more than half of all healthy adults in the study showed signs of plaque somewhere in their arteries, according to a major new international study.Researchers from Denmark and Spain used advanced imaging to examine more than 16,800 adults ages 18 to 70 with no known cardiovascular disease. They found plaque in 57.1% of participants, with prevalence increasing steadily with age, from about 1 in 13 adults under 30 to roughly nine in 10 adults ages 60 to 70, according to the research published in The New England Journal of Medicine in August.Atherosclerosis occurs when fatty deposits, cholesterol and other substances build up inside arteries, according to experts. The process often develops silently over many years before causing a heart attack or stroke.About 1 in 13 young adults have a buildup of artery-clogging plaque, despite having no known heart disease, a study found. Prostock-studio – stock.adobe.com“For decades, we have estimated cardiovascular risk using factors such as age, blood pressure and cholesterol,” Dr. Borja Ibáñez, a cardiologist and scientific director of Spain’s National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC), said in a statement.“This study shows that we can now go one step further and detect the disease directly before it causes a heart attack or stroke.”The new findings come from the first phase of the ongoing international REACT study, which is mapping how common silent artery plaque is across adulthood. In the next phase, researchers will test whether earlier detection can improve heart disease prevention.Men tend to develop artery plaque 5 to 10 years earlier than women. Ngampol – stock.adobe.com“Until now, preventive decisions have been based on an estimate of risk, but we did not know whether the disease was already present,” Henning Bundgaard, professor of cardiology at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, said.“REACT shows that atherosclerosis can be detected decades before clinical manifestations appear and provides the most comprehensive atlas of the evolution of the disease across adult life.”The study also revealed that men tended to develop plaque 5 to 10 years earlier than women, while women experienced their steepest increase between ages 40 and 60.Researchers also found that commonly used cardiovascular risk scores only identified a small proportion of people who already had silent atherosclerosis, suggesting some cases may go undetected using traditional risk assessments alone.Experts recommend exercise, a healthy diet and avoiding tobacco to protect heart health. Jacob Lund – stock.adobe.comWhile the researchers believe portable ultrasound could eventually help identify hidden plaque earlier, they said further clinical trials are needed. The findings should encourage people to take heart health seriously but not to panic, experts note.“Finding plaque doesn’t mean someone is about to have a heart attack, but finding it gives us an opportunity to address a patient’s risk factors,” Dr. Sirisha Vadali, a cardiologist at HonorHealth Women’s Heart Health in Arizona who was not involved in the research, told Fox News Digital.“We shouldn’t wait for symptoms to start paying attention to heart health. Feeling healthy doesn’t necessarily mean your arteries are free of plaque.”She cautioned that the study alone does not establish that screening everyone will directly prevent heart attacks or strokes.Vadali stressed that the findings do not mean everyone under 30 should undergo artery screening, saying decisions about additional testing should be based on a person’s individual risk factors. She recommended avoiding tobacco, staying physically active and eating a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains, nuts and fish while limiting saturated fat and excess sodium to help protect heart health.

9 Quiet Ways You Abandon Yourself to Keep the Peace New

9 Quiet Ways You Abandon Yourself to Keep the Peace

1. You Say Yes Before Checking How You FeelAn automatic yes can look generous while quietly overriding your own limits. You agree to another favor, social plan or extra task, then feel trapped by a decision you barely noticed making. Before answering, create a small pause: “Let me check and get back to you.” That sentence gives your actual preferences time to surface. The goal is not to become less caring. It is to make generosity a choice rather than a reflex driven by discomfort.2. You Edit Your Opinions to Match the RoomConstantly adjusting your views can protect you from awkward moments, but it also teaches you that belonging depends on being agreeable. You may laugh at something you dislike or pretend not to care about an issue that matters deeply.Practice expressing low-stakes differences first: choosing another restaurant, disliking a popular show or suggesting a different plan. Safe disagreement builds evidence that connection can survive honesty—and that your identity does not need to disappear in company.3. You Explain Boundaries Until They Sound NegotiableWhen you feel guilty setting a limit, you may bury it beneath apologies, personal history and repeated justification. The more you explain, the more the other person may treat your boundary as an argument to win.A respectful limit can be brief: “I can’t host this weekend,” or “I’m not comfortable discussing that.” Context is optional, not a debt. Notice whether you are sharing information to clarify your decision or offering evidence because you believe permission must be earned.4. You Treat Discomfort as Proof You Were WrongSpeaking honestly can bring guilt, tension or fear, especially if you are used to smoothing everything over. Those feelings do not automatically mean you acted badly. Sometimes discomfort is simply the emotional cost of changing an old pattern.Instead of reversing your decision immediately, ask: Was I cruel, or was I merely clear? Did I violate my values, or disappoint someone? This distinction helps you repair genuine harm without apologizing for every choice another person dislikes.5. You Manage Emotions That Belong to Other PeopleYou may monitor everyone’s mood, soften every message and rush to fix disappointment before it is even expressed. This creates the illusion that harmony is your responsibility, while other people are spared from handling ordinary frustration. You can be compassionate without taking control. Listen, acknowledge what they feel and resist immediately changing your answer. Someone can be unhappy with your decision and still cope. Allowing that possibility protects your energy and makes relationships more emotionally honest.6. You Minimize Needs That Might Inconvenience SomeoneSelf-abandonment often hides in phrases like “It’s fine” or “Don’t worry about me” when neither is true. Perhaps you are exhausted but refuse help, or uncomfortable but insist everyone continue as planned.Try naming one concrete need without making it a verdict on anyone else: “I need ten quiet minutes,” or “Could we lower the music?” Clear requests give people a fair chance to respond. Silence may avoid inconvenience briefly, but it often produces resentment later.7. You Confuse Being Needed With Being ValuedBeing the dependable fixer can make you feel secure because your role is obvious: solve the problem, carry the load, remain indispensable. Yet usefulness is not the same as mutual care. If a relationship becomes distant whenever you stop rescuing, that information matters.Experiment with doing less rather than disappearing completely. Decline one unnecessary task and observe what remains. Healthy connection has room for your presence, humor and vulnerability—not only the services you provide.8. You Ignore Resentment Until It Becomes WithdrawalResentment is not always evidence that others are demanding too much. Sometimes it signals that you repeatedly agreed to what you did not want, then expected people to notice the sacrifice you never named.Treat resentment as information before it hardens into coldness. Identify the specific pattern beneath it: too many favors, unequal planning or no uninterrupted time. Then request a concrete change. Honest renegotiation is usually kinder than silently keeping score until you no longer want closeness.9. You No Longer Know What You Actually WantAfter years of prioritizing reactions around you, even simple preferences can feel strangely inaccessible. Asked what you want for dinner, a weekend or your future, you may scan for the answer that causes the least trouble.Relearning preference begins privately. Keep a short daily note of what energized you, drained you, interested you or felt wrong. Small observations rebuild self-trust. Peace that requires your permanent disappearance is not peace; it is a pattern worth changing carefully.

Shane Burcaw Shares Touching Pregnancy Milestone After Revealing His Biggest Worry New

Shane Burcaw Shares Touching Pregnancy Milestone After Revealing His Biggest Worry

Published 23:53 4 Oct 2026 GMT+1The couple, better known as 'Squirmy and Grubs', announced their pregnancy last month TikTok stars Shane and Hannah Burcaw have shared a sweet new update on their pregnancy after the dad-to-be shared one of his ‘biggest worries’ about becoming a parent. On 8 September, the content creators announced they were expecting their first child, revealing that they had initially decided to enjoy ‘this special time in private’ and that Hannah was 20 weeks pregnant. The couple, who have around 1.85 million subscribers on their Squirmy and Grubs YouTube channel, said the new arrival would be here in January and that they would bring fans along on their journey to parenthood. In a candid post shared earlier this week, Shane - who has spinal muscular atrophy and uses a wheelchair - opened up about one of his biggest concerns when it came to being a dad. AdvertHannah and Shane Burcaw shared their thrilling baby news on Instagram (Instagram/shaneburcaw)“One of my biggest worries about having children is the extent to which I’ll be able to physically interact with them,” he wrote. Shane went on to say that this fear also extended to being able to feel their little one kicking while still in the womb. He continued: “I know and believe that parenting and love do not require physical ability, but I still grapple with those deep down anxieties at times, especially as our baby began kicking in Hannah’s womb a few weeks ago. I hoped, but didn’t know for certain whether, I’d be able to reach my arms far enough to feel the kicking myself.”But in a touching clip shared alongside the post, Shane could be seen shutting down some of those fears as he lovingly held Hannah’s growing bump as the baby kicked. “Guess what?” he asked. “I’m feeling the baby kick.” Hannah then chipped in to say it was Shane’s ‘new favourite activity’. “The baby is already stronger than I am,” Shane said with a laugh, while Hannah shared that she’d been feeling the baby moving around since she was 15 weeks pregnant. "It’s the most wild thing in the world to feel it moving around in there,” he said. The couple also let slip that they know the gender of their baby but haven’t shared it with their millions of followers just yet. The couple shared a cute milestone update on their pregnancy (YouTube/Squirmy and Grubs)In an interview with PEOPLE shortly after their pregnancy announcement, Shane spoke about how much of his parenting would not be impacted by his disability. “One thing that has made me feel good is that they are reminding me that so much of parenting is not the physical stuff,” Shane said. “A human being, yes, needs physical care as a baby, but a lot of parenting is about the mind and emotions and learning and love.”He added: “My disability will not inhibit me from doing that with our kid in any way. So that’s been really reassuring for me.”He also revealed that they’d look for ways and products that would make life easier, including a variety of pillows that will allow the little one to lie comfortably on Shane’s lap as well as a carrier that can be attached to his wheelchair. “I can’t wait to figure out all those little ways that we can make it work,” he added.
