New details have emerged in the tragic death of Chad Lowe’s 13-year-old daughter, Fiona Lowe.

According to County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner records viewed by Page Six, Fiona died in a hospital on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The status of the case remains open.

Reps for Chad did not immediately respond to our request for comment.

The Lowe-Painter family announced the teen’s death in a heartbreaking statement on Tuesday.

“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance,” her loved ones told us.

“She was adored by her sisters, and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives.”

The grieving family described Fiona’s passing as “devastating” and asked for “prayers and privacy at this time.”

They concluded their statement, “If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.”

Chad, the younger brother of fellow actor Rob Lowe, shared Fiona with his wife of 16 years, producer Kim Painter. The two are also parents to daughters Mabel Lowe, 17, and Nixie Lowe, 10.

Chad and Rob’s father, Charles “Chuck” Lowe, paid tribute to his “sweet” granddaughter on Instagram Wednesday, writing alongside a picture of her in a swimming pool, “Rest in peace.”

Page Six can confirm that the parents of the students where Fiona attended middle school were sent an email from the principal Tuesday morning informing them that a student had died.

“It is with deep sadness that I am calling you to advise you of the death of one of our students,” read the email, which did not name the student. “Our sincere condolences go out to the student’s family, friends and teachers.”

The email noted that counselors would be “available to meet with students and staff who may need emotional support during this difficult time.”

A source previously shared with us that Fiona was “a very well-liked student” who “had a lot of friends.”

Chad, 58, last posted about his middle child on Instagram in November 2025 in honor of her birthday.

“Celebrating Fiona officially becoming a teen today!!” he captioned a sweet photo showing her flashing a toothless smile while sporting cowboy boots, denim shorts and braided pigtails. “Keep dancing through life FiBear! Love you soooo much!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.”

The Lowe-Painter family home was notably destroyed during the January 2025 Palisades Fire.

“The way they’ve handled this whole devastating experience is nothing short of remarkable,” Chad marveled of his three daughters the following month. “I am in awe of their spirit and resilience. Helping them navigate these tough times is my sole purpose. Being their dad is my life’s greatest joy and privilege.”

During an August 2024 podcast appearance, the actor discussed how being a father to only girls had changed his “perspective” on the world.

Chad was previously married to actress Hilary Swank from January 1997 to November 2007.
