Chaos in Times Square: Knife-Wielding Woman Shot by NYPD

A knife-wielding woman was shot and killed by police in the heart of Times Square after she stabbed two people, one fatally, on Monday, sources said. 

The mayhem erupted in the Crossroads of the World after the suspect knifed a man and a woman near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue just before 4:30 p.m., law enforcement sources said. 

Officers found her close to a NYPD substation, waving a knife at them, according to sources and harrowing footage of the shooting. 

Police opened fire, striking the woman, who was later pronounced dead. 

Multiple videos posted to social media captured the woman, who was wearing a pink shirt, jeans, and a crossbody purse, waving a knife toward multiple officers in front of a large crowd of onlookers.

After the woman began hobbling toward cops with the knife pointed toward them, at least one officer opened fire, causing her to fall to the ground.

“Oh sh-t, Oh sh-t,” terrified pedestrians yelled as they scrambled from the scene and officers began attending to the knife-wielding woman. 

Several loud pops were heard before the suspect appeared to be struck by gunfire. 

Police did deploy tasers, striking the woman, but she pulled them out and continued confronting officers before they openned fire, sources said. 

The NYPD said the suspect’s weapon was recovered. 

Photos captured a police officer holding a large kitchen knife in front of a souvenir shop near the stabbing scene.

The woman and one of her victims died at the hospital, according to sources. The second victim was listed in critical condition. 

The incident is not believed to be terrorism-related.
