Laurie Metcalf on Her Last Conversation with Roseanne Barr After ABC Ouster

Share Post

Laurie Metcalf has not communicated with Roseanne Barr since 2018, following Barr's controversial firing from ABC due to offensive tweets. Metcalf reflected on their non-communication during an interview with The New Yorker.

Estrangement After Reboot

Metcalf mentioned that their lack of communication stems from the end of the "Roseanne" reboot. When asked about any anger towards Barr for ending the show, Metcalf expressed uncertainty in answering.

Original Collaboration and Revival

The two actresses worked together on "Roseanne" from 1988 to 1997. They reunited for the show's revival in 2018, which was subsequently canceled after Barr's tweets comparing Valerie Jarrett to an ape.

The cancellation announcement was made by ABC Entertainment's president, citing the tweets as inconsistent with company values. Following this, a spin-off named “The Conners” was launched without Barr.

Casting Changes and Continuation

Metcalf and other original cast members like John Goodman and Sara Gilbert joined "The Conners," which ran until 2025. The spin-off depicted Barr's character passing away due to an opioid overdose.

John Goodman also revealed he hasn't spoken to Barr in several years, expressing doubt that she would want to reconnect.
