A violent incident occurred at Grand Central Terminal in New York City, where a man attacked several people with a machete. The suspect, identified as Anthony Griffin, was subsequently shot by police.

Attack Details

Anthony Griffin allegedly injured three people using a machete inside Grand Central Terminal on Saturday morning. The victims included a 65-year-old man, a 70-year-old woman, and an 84-year-old man. Griffin reportedly started the attack after traveling on a No. 7 train from Queens to Manhattan. Police confronted him on the 4/5/6 platform and shot him after he refused to drop the weapon during a standoff.

Victims’ Condition and Police Response

The victims sustained serious injuries but are in stable condition at the hospital. Authorities confirmed they did not know Griffin and called the attack random. Two police officers involved in the incident are also hospitalized in stable condition. Following the incident, part of Grand Central Terminal was shut down as investigations continued.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani addressed the incident publicly, expressing gratitude for the NYPD's swift response and confirming that body camera footage will be released as part of standard procedure.
