Share Post

Former U.S. Senator Ben Sasse has opened up about his stage IV metastatic pancreatic cancer diagnosis and how he's been coping with it.

Diagnosis and Initial Reaction

Sasse disclosed that in mid-December, he was given a three-to-four-month life expectancy. However, as of now, he is faring better than expected. Reflecting on his late-year diagnosis, Sasse spoke about valuing the time he has left and overcoming the initial shock.

Challenges and Treatment

Sasse began experiencing significant back pain last fall while training for triathlons, prompting him to seek medical advice. After undergoing scans in December, doctors informed him that his torso was filled with tumors. Due to its progression, the cancer was deemed inoperable. He is currently on a drug called daraxonrasib as part of his treatment plan.

Coping with Pain and Future Thoughts

He mentioned that although the treatment comes with side effects like bleeding and nausea, his pain has significantly decreased. Looking ahead, Sasse expressed concern over missing future family milestones due to his illness.

Sasse shared that death should be recognized as something we despise yet acceptance brings peace knowing that eventually there will be no more suffering from such ailments.
