Queen Elizabeth's Startling Ultimatum to Prince Harry Revealed!
Prince Harry was reportedly reluctant to leave the royal family, but Queen Elizabeth II gave him an ultimatum. A new book by Hugo Vickers explores Harry's frustrations and the events leading up to his and Meghan Markle's resignation from royal duties.
Leaving the Royal Duties
In 2019, Prince Harry went to Canada with Meghan Markle, hoping to discuss a future arrangement with the Queen on returning. However, at a meeting on the Sandringham estate in early 2020, Harry was informed he had to choose between being all in or all out of his royal duties.
Wanting a hybrid role that allowed financial independence while fulfilling royal duties, Harry was disappointed when this was not an option. As a result, he returned to Canada and eventually announced their departure from official roles in January 2020.
Settling in the United States
The Sussexes moved permanently to California three months after announcing their exit, leaving behind Frogmore Cottage. In 2023, following the release of Prince Harry's memoir "Spare," they were requested to vacate the cottage officially.
Final Visit and Family Wishes
Before Queen Elizabeth's death, Harry and Meghan made a trip to London in June 2022 so their children could spend time with their great-grandmother. The Queen wished for her great-grandchildren to have happy memories of her.
According to Robert Hardman's upcoming biography "Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public," it was important for the Queen that all great-grandchildren visited Balmoral during the summer.
The last public appearance by the Sussexes at Windsor was in September 2022, during Queen Elizabeth's funeral proceedings.
