Trump's Prescription: Big Savings on Expensive Meds

Share Post

TrumpRx, a government website launched on Feb. 5, offers discounts on select brand-name prescriptions. The service, initiated by President Donald Trump, aims to lower prescription costs in the United States.

Instead of selling medications directly, TrumpRx connects patients with discounts or coupons from manufacturers. This helps individuals facing high out-of-pocket expenses for medications not fully covered by insurance.

Reducing Prescription Costs

U.S. prescription drug prices are significantly higher than in other developed nations, as per a report by the RAND Corporation. TrumpRx has notably reduced prices for various high-cost medications, such as GLP-1 therapies and fertility treatments.

  • Wegovy for weight management: From $1,349 to $149 per month
  • Ozempic for diabetes and weight management: From $1,028 to $199 per month
  • Gonal-F injection for infertility: From $966 to $168
  • Ovidrel injection for infertility: From $251 to $84

Participation and Future Additions

Before the launch, 16 pharmaceutical companies collaborated with the Trump administration to provide discounted prescription drugs to Medicaid patients. The website currently features medications from five manufacturers, with plans to include more in the future.

At a White House event, President Trump highlighted the potential savings for millions of Americans through the platform, emphasizing its positive impact on overall healthcare.
