New Jersey Man Arrested for Boasting to 911 About Escaping Police in Wild Car Chase

Share Post

A man from New Jersey is facing criminal charges after reportedly calling 911 to boast about evading police during a dangerous car chase in East Rutherford.

According to News 12, Vishal Bhatt, 38, initially contacted the police department on January 28 to complain about a traffic ticket he had received earlier that day. Based on statements made during the call, officers conducted a wellness check at his residence.

When police arrived, Bhatt was sitting inside a white Kia Rio and fled the scene upon seeing officers approaching.

Police say that during the attempted traffic stop, Bhatt accelerated at a high speed, passed another vehicle improperly, and almost collided with oncoming traffic. The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns, but Bhatt was positively identified as the driver involved.

Bhatt allegedly continued calling the police after the chase, bragging about evading them. These calls helped investigators track his movements, leading to his arrest in Clinton on January 30 without further incident.

He has been charged with eluding police and additional motor vehicle offenses related to reckless driving and unsafe vehicle operation. Authorities have not disclosed if there were any injuries or involvement of alcohol or drugs.
